I prefer a rump roast, but any good roast will do. If there is a little too much fat, you can trim it off but leave a little so the meat will be tender. I don't brown mine first, but you can if you prefer. I take the roast, rinse well then place in bottom of crock pot. Add cut up onions, potatoes & carrots. Pour over 1 pkg Lipton onion soup mix, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 soup can of water then stir. Add 1 stick of butter & cook on low 8 - 10 hours......Yummy!!

Pot roast can be any large cut of meat but as a good give away, they usually entail the word "roast" in there name (sir loin roast., chuck roast, seven bone roast, round roast, prime rib roast, etc). However my personal preference is either a chuck roast or beef brisket which is not a roast cut but still works very well. These parts are the cheap and tough parts of the cow which is fine in this case because they tend to be quite flavorful and since a pot roast is cooked long and slowly, all the connective tissue that makes them so tough melts away. For the veggies, I put them in in stages. The potatoes I put in at the start along with the onions but others like carrots and celery, I wait awhile so they still have some texture when the roast is done.

I use bottom round and trim off the thick layer of fat from the outside. In fact, I have one in the crockpot as I type! And you don't have to brown it. I actually just dumped mine in frozen, added carrots and potatoes, and covered it in one of those McCormick pot roast seasing packets mixed with water. I've done it before and my husband loves it! Cook on high for 4-6 hours.

I use a rump roast and I put in in my slow cooker
for 8-10 hours on low so it comes out tender.

I always use a rump roast. Much less fatty than chuck. I don't usually brown it first, but it wouldn't hurt anything if you did. Might even be better.

bottom round. cut the excess fat off before cooking. don't need to brown. after 3-4 hours, slice it and put it back.

i use stew beef. i usually let it cook in the crockpot overnight and throughout the next day for maximum tenderness. hope i helped!
