there is no temporary releif other then painkillers. The fact that you have sore gums in the first place is because you have poor oral hygeine and have let the plaque (bacteria and food debris) build up on your teeth and gums. The toxins the bacteria give off cause tooth decay and sore gums (gingivitis). You should get yourself to a dentist get a good scale and polish (clean) and in the meantime get a new, small headed, medium-firm toothbrush brush your gums as well as your teeth in a downward/upward manner. From the gum downwards if you are doing your top teeth, and from the gum upwards if doing the bottom teeth. Use floss or interspace brushes to clean inbetween your teeth, and then use a mouthwash such as Corsodyl (chlorhexidine) as it is a mouthwash specifically designed for gum problems, or use a warm salty mouthwash, it will heal the gums. Personally i prefer corsodyl.

Dont worry if your gums bleed when cleaning its all good, they are only bleeding because the bacteria have made them all sore and irritated, the more you maintain a good regime of brushing, the less the bleeding will be, healthy gums should never ever bleed, you dont bleed from any other part of your body when you clean it (at least i hope not!!) gums are only skin.

If your gums are sore due to any other reason (denture rubbing, new tooth erupting etc) then a topical analgesia might be of use, such as bonjela, a denture would need easing by the dentist.

Hope this is of some help ut you should also go and seek your dentists opinion.

I use a water pic with 1/3 Hydrogen peroxide and 2/3 warm water. This gives almost instant relief. No kidding, I was shocked. You just squirt the solution at the gum line inside and out. It foams a little at first but quits after you have done it a couple of times. About 5 oz of peroxide mixed with 10 oz of warm water is enough to go around all of your teeth twice inside and out. Don't use it any stronger than 50/50 cause it is strong enough to damage healing gum tissue. After a while just doing it once a week keeps you symptom free. To get rid of the taste just use your favorite mouth wash. Love and blessings Don
