and especially in here where English may be a second language for someone ... or like another person who asked this question , she was dyslexic

When there is a spell check, a lot of people will care that they didn't bother to use it. If no one can understand what the question is because words are misspelled - yes, I will let them know what the correct spelling of some I think I know is since they don't know what the "Check Spelling" in the upper right hand corner is supposed to be for - and then ask them what their question is.

Actually, I care. It happens to be a passion of mine. Finding out the origins of words helps me to understand things about a culture, it's people, etc. I know that sounds a bit...well...crazy, but it's true. And spelling a word one way may mean one origin. Spelling it another way means an entirely different origin

Also, spelling represents your command of a language. When I worked as a recruiter, if I was looking for someone who had a good command of the language, any resume (can't put in the accent marks) with spelling mistakes was tossed out. It tells me either the person isn't educated, isn't willing to put in the effort to do things the right way, or is just plain uncaring. None of those qualities make for a good employee.

Another thing, letters, memos, and advertisements can be the first impression a company makes. If you are a company that specializes in academic writing or presentations or scripts or anything that has to do with writing that can affect your livelihood, you had better make sure EVERYTHING is spelled correctly on your literature. If not, you won't be in business much longer.

There there with theres. What does this sentence mean? How about if it's spelled right. They're there with theirs. Make more sense? That's because of spelling.

This is true in any language, not just English. In character languages like Japanese and Chinese, a "misspelled" or misdrawn word could completely change the meaning of it. You could be telling someone they have fat nose instead of a great opportunity.

Spelling helps with clarity if nothing else. So, while you might not think it's important here on Answers, remember that if you get used to spelling something one way in this forum, you might be in a hurry one day and spell it that way to your boss. Who, trust me, will not be amused if you're in any kind of writing business.

By the way, you didn't misspell any words that I saw. Now, can we talk about punctuation...just kidding (or am I? Bwah hahh hahhhh) LOL

Good journeys and good spelling!

Asha

Sometimes I agree. Most of mine are typos and I don't always run spell check. Some people are way too picky. Yesterday I typed "affraid" instead of "afraid" and someone went on to tell me I spelled it wrong. It was a typo really.
But some spell so gawd awful I don't know what the hell they are talking about, spell check probably doesn't even know what word they were trying to spell.
Poor composition drives me more nuts. No periods or capitalization. I don't think people understand its hard to read something that ends up being a huge run on sentence.

Proper spelling is a sign of respect for those you are inquiring to. Mis-spelled words when a spell checker is available is an indication of not caring whether or not your readers will understand your question. Why should we take an unintelligible question seriously?

Plus it makes you look illiterate and uneducated. Not the image you want to be projecting.

One misspelling isn't such a big deal - the problem comes when the spelling and grammar is SO bad that you cannot understand what they are asking. I always use spell check - simply because I am aware that I cannot spell worth beans.

You don't seem to have that issue. :)

It's IMPORTANT! yes you are in the WRONG category. Why shouldn't you care? You really shouldn't use spell check because that prevents you from spelling correctly anyway! It's a pet peeve for some, don't let it bother you!

A posting that's filled with spelling errors and/or poor grammar makes the poster look ignorant, uneducated and lazy. It makes it difficult to take the message seriously.

I would have to agree with jazz. Sometimes, if a word isn't spelled correctly, you can't decipher the message. Then how are we supposed to answer the question. Spelling is all important as is the grammar and make-up of your sentences.
