If so, anyone know of a place where I can find an original system (new /used)? And, how much should I expect to spend on a complete unit. Mechanic cost? Thanks to all who reply. Just bought a 66 a couple of weeks ago and love it! Needs air though....Too hot here in the summer toot have it. Thanks again!

yes they actually made those with factory air if you wanted it,you can go to larrysmustangparts.com he has all the needed stuff to do it with, i had one a long time ago with air,it cuts the power down on it,but makes it cooler to drive,a shop will install all of this and get it working for about 3-400 bucks, the whole thing will cost you around 1200 bucks, good luck hope this helps.

A/C systems rob horsepower because the compressor is run off the crank. So when you turn on the A/C, on any car, the crank has one more thing to power, thus taking away horsepower that otherwise would be going to the rear wheels. Same goes with power steering. It also decreases you MPG. The 6 cylinder Mustangs had around 180hp stock, and that's enough to have some fun in a car that only weighs 2800lbs. So it's not going to make your car run worse, it will just take away some power. If the car came with factory A/C, keep it in there. This is a pro because the more factory options your car has, such as A/C, pony interior, or the rally pack, the more your car will be worth. So to answer your question, the car will not run a lot better without the A/C (you'll notice a slight loss of power, that's it), and you will save more gas without the A/C (but how often are you gonna drive the car and use the A/C?). I would guess your trying to keep your Mustang stock, so if I were you I would keep it in there.

You can find a ton of parts on Ebay for the a/c. You said you wanted original.....expect to pay big dollars for original (used).

I was a little taken back when I wanted to install A/C on my 65 coupe with a V8.

Yes, it was available on the early Mustang six. You have a choice, either a old system from a wrecking yard or a new modern one from the hotrod industry...
