I know the bible says that salvation isn't by works but where does it say that you have to understand that or that you can't add anything to faith alone in order to be saved? As long as the main focus of their faith is christ, then why would a technicality like believing they had to go to church as well as have faith make them unsaved. Unlike groups like JWs who deliberately pervert the scriptures and deny the divinity of christ all together, some people belive in jesus and are just confused about scripture because some parts are ambiguous as to what is required and while it is implied, the exact phrase salvation by faith alone isn't really used in the bible, so it gets interpreted as being saved by adding works to faith.

We are the result of preceding causes that either limit or free us. I was once a fundamentalist Christian who staunchly opposed anything not of my beliefs, but then, suddenly, with a little push (a cause), I escaped it.

If you come to fervently believe that something is right or wrong, ESPECIALLY if you can make arguments for it, I don't see how you can be accountable. You may look like an idiot, but you've convinced yourself, and that's what matters to you.

If you're caught inside something, it is very difficult to see it objectively; you have to take a step out of it to understand. This is ESPECIALLY true in Christianity and other religions that preach only one way, yet have a different interpretation from each individual. Apparently, "the Way" is not so clear...

The bare bones, or the 'milk' of the word is to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. Jesus and God has shown that He will bend down to your level and bring those with just a glimmer of faith. So you are saying the truth when you say that salvation is by faith.

But the continuing faith of the individual is apparent in that it is required to grow into the person that God makes us into. I would think it a mistake to go and say," Okay, I am saved. Now I will get on with life; that base is covered."

The reason why I say this is because Jesus talked about different types of Christians. The wheat sown in the field and other parables show that Christians are targets of Satan ( the enemy) who tries to diminish the effect God's word might have around those who are believers.

I would refer you to these verses:
Matthew 13:1-23

We go to church to learn and study. The Bible says to be in company of the God loving people.
You can still be saved and not attend church, but not until you understand . Try to live as Jesus would want and says.
You can't modify the words of the Bible to suite you. God's way is the only way to heaven.
We are to work as God's servants and that means spreading His word and helping others understand.
As you say, adding anything to faith is wrong, do it the way God says. Once saved, always saved, ask forgiveness and repent of your sins and stay with God all the time, for if you don't know Him, he will sway He doesn't know you.
The Scriptures can be confusing if you don't study and attend church and talk with other Christians.
That is also why we believe JW is wrong, they alter the scriptures to suite themselves and their own ways.

Because they are badly taught. The thief on the cross was promised a place in Paradise by Jesus as they died. He was hardly a theologian.
and some of the Bible IS difficult to understand - it even says so! -
2 Peter 3 (New King James Version)
Be Steadfast

14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

i can understand your confusion. my belief on this subject is thst these religions can continue to spout off anything they want to. but, in the end nobody knows anything for sure until they die. i believe in a loving, forgiving GOD . i beleive that as long as i live my life the way that i think GOD wants me to and i don't intentionally hurt others i don't need to go to church services. also as long as i have accepted JESUS into my heart as my Saviour that is what will save me. I do not need to go out and yell at the top of my lungs that i am ma Christian and you must become one too if you want to live forever. i believe that i am doing my part by howo i live my life.

It's the mastering of Merlin's magic wand from our creator's universal gifts of life to be the Son of God.
It comes in three.
Two is not enough.
With one missing will not work.
The blunders and slip-ups with human errors was created back in the past with the gifts of life being lost with time.
The gifts of life is vital for the survival and advancement of each and every living human kind on planet earth.
Look around at the mess created with living examples in iraq with total loss of those gifts in making a mess out there.
Ever wonder why they were living in misery with total loss of those gifts with their own self prides and self discrimination getting kick on the butts with the betrayal of Judas with "My way"

Ah, that's the rub in the nubbin, isn't it? You have to be able to interpret what G-d said correctly in order to get into heaven. How can you do that when so many are interpreting it differently?
