Living in Park Slope for two weeks while on holiday in NY (staying with a friend who has an apartment there). How long does it take to get into the city? Could you give me some information about the area. Any help would be great!

In the 70s, Park Slope was drug ridden like its next door neighbor Red Hook. That all started to change in the 1980s. Today Park Slope is a upscale neighborhood with plenty of trendy stores and restaurants on Fourth Avenue. Today brownstones in Park Slope are selling for more than a million dollars. Plenty of urban professionals in that neighborhood and really close to a great park, Prospect park.

One of the most prestigious/sought-after neighborhoods in Brooklyn, and in fact the whole city, at least among white professionals. Went from blighted in the 60's to an enclave of social workers, teachers, and lesbians, to now fully gentrified and full of thirtysomething yuppie parents of young children [see NYTimes article just weekend about the density of young kids in PS].

The trendy boutiques and restaurants are along Seventh and Fifth Avenues, not Fourth as someone above stated.

Brooklyn is part of the city! do you mean into Manhattan? To find out how long a subway trip takes, enter start and end addresses into www.hopstop.com. 20-30 minutes into downtown on the 2/3, more like 45 minutes into midtown on the F. From some parts of PS you can walk to Atlantic Ave. subway station and take an express.

don't forget to spend some time relaxing in Prospect Park -- it's a much less crowded and pleasant experience than Central, and there's a summer concert series going on now.

It takes anywhere from 30 min to an hour to get to Manhattan, depending on where you are going.
