I am in my mid 40's and basically have been employed in the same field as my father and his father printing. Went to college for 1 year but didnt like it, majored in graphic arts. The good thing about printing is that it is a trade and there are always jobs available you might have to start at the bottom like I did but you can become an operator either running a printing press or working in the bindery and make pretty good money. Like anything else it takes time. I dont hate my job but at times it can be boring. My advice is try to get something with the goverment the pay is usually good and the benefits are great. GOOD LUCK!!!

Maybe you are looking at it in the wrong way. First of all, decide why you hate your job. Is it your boss? Is it too mentally/physically draining on you? Is it your customers? Is it your co-workers? Is it too stressful? Find your exact reason. Then think about how bad it truly is compared to other things in life. Is your boss really worse than a snobby high paid actor that tells you that you can't get anything right? Is it really as difficult as you think the job is? Is it really as tedious and boring as you think it is? Would you prefer to be working with a bunch of obnoxious teens with no respect for anyone? I personally have always looked for the good in things. Somehow, it has lead me to prefer the tasks that nobody else likes to do. I worked at an airline and I didn't mind telling 200 people that their flight was cancelled. Even at my current job, when everyone is groaning about our horrible supervisor, I say, "He doesn't seem that bad to me, he's actually kind of funny." Your job is what you make of it. I walk in every day with a smile, and walk out with that same smile. I'm getting paid, reguardless of my attitude. I like to think that I'm getting paid to be happy. Next time you are in a situation where you hate your job, just think how much worse it would be if you were sitting on a subway, squished between two larger people, each eating a polish sausage with onions and sauerkraut, and a woman with a screaming baby sitting behind you and the baby's diaper hasn't been changed in a week. I don't know your job so I can't point out the positives, but just remember that you always have the choice to be happy. And you have the choice to quit and move on any time you would like.

I love my vocation. I was in the same position that you are in. I was trapped in an office with a bunch of people that just "worked" there. Boring treadmill type stuff. I saw the wrinting on the wall and realised that only I could change my destiny. I made full use of all of the practical learning tools i.e. that the company provided and at the same time did research to find a job that would suit me.
The trick here is to set a goal. You want change .... go for it nobody else can help you... only you can do it.
Find a job that suits your personality. Do you want to be in charge of people. Do you want to work in an office. Do you want to be your own Boss.
I wanted to be self-employed, deal with intersting people, not an office job, and because of my background, agriculture and property in general would have to be part of it. Conservation would have to feature and of course my best thing ... animals.
I spoke to many people, read a lot of guff on careers and then one day it all fell into place. Needless to say to be accepted I had to have the necessary qualifications. This was spread out over six years as I had to feed myself, pay the mortgage etc. so my studies were on a part time basis. In the beginning it was not easy.
I now have a job (my business) earn good shingles, I have a good reputation in my market because I love my job and I can dabble in the things that I am intersted in whilst earning a living.
Take heart ... you can do it. I am not particularly bright but I put my mind to it and succeeded. If I can do it so can you.
