Mine went through that too. It has alot to do with diet. Try feeding him baby prunes or prune juice. Gerber makes apple prune juice that is really pretty good. If he takes ceral try oatmeal over rice for a while - it's less constipating. Durning these summer months you need to offer more fluids anyway....but keep up the juice....... avoid foods that are traditionally constipating and increase fiber and fruit. The prune juice should help but if you get desperate talk to your Dr about a glycerin suppository. Mine also suggested a rectal thermonitor dipped in a little petroleum jelly and insert it about 1/2 inch and gently move it around to stimulate the bowels. I know its gross but whe your baby is in pain you'll try anything! Good luck

My daughter had the same problem at about 7 months. She wouldn't drink water--once she started drinking water, everything was fine. So you could try that, or prune juice (or any other juice). Cut any bananas, rice, or iron-fortified cereal for awhile, as those can cause constipation. There is also a rare disorder that can occur where the muscles around his anus don't work correctly--a pediatric gastro-enterologist can check for it (noninvasively). They checked my daughter for that and concluded that it was all behavioral--she wasn't getting enough liquids and was holding it because it had hurt to go in the past, which made it worse. If he's the same way, he'll grow out of it in a few months. But if it's hurting him, definately consult with your doctor just to be sure nothing physical is going on.

My daughter had this problem, and she would not drink cooled boiled water so I added a tiny amount of fruit juice to it. Use the fresh , not from consentrate kind, try orange or apple, my daughter likes apple and mango, dilute about 1 part juice to 10 parts water. Also massaging the stomach, starting low on HER right hand side, up to her belly button, across the top of her belly button and down her left side helps, make sure you do it in a clockwise direction as this is the way the bowel travels. I also used to put a tiny bit of vaseline on a cotton bud and just put it around her anus and up very slightly. She will get over this stage, as long as she is taking some formula and not vomitting dont worry too much. If she does start refusing food completely and vomitting take her to doctors or ER.

Boil some pears, mash them up and add tiny pit of prune juice. Feed this to your baby and less than a day the constipation will end.

Well, there are some medicines available that help soften the stools like dioctyl syprup and lactulose solution (though you should ensure he drinks plenty of water after taking the lactulose) that you could try. Lactulose Solution is a product you can obtain from any pharmacy whereas with the dioctyl, you'll have to get it on prescription. Whatever you decide to get, make sure its ok for your son to use and also, if this is an ongoing problem you should definitely see your doctor. Hope this helps. :)

My daughter suffered from this for the first year alot. I found that a teaspoon a prune juice in some warm water worked a trick. Also, when he appears to be straining you counld put a blob of vasaline on a cotton bud and gently wipe arond his rectum.xx

my daughter is 2 1/2 and suffers from the same since she was 10 months i find that oranges does the trick for me its ok either juice or fresh clementines but the clementines work better for me. if this doesn't work try using a small teaspoon of honey in warm milk as this also works wonders but what milk are you using if you are using formula milk you should try the cows milk i started full fat cows milk when my daughter was 11 months and there is nothing wrong with it .
if this fails i got some movicol powder from the docs this is very effective and works really good try mixing a bit in his milk as he won;t like the taste in water
good luck!! xx
