It could definitely be a problem, and kids can be scarred at a much younger age. Then again, that's no reason by itself to make a person depressed, which usually has several factors including genetic. Any uncle who would beat his niece is probably screwed up too, and those genes may run in the family. (i.e., the uncle may be a drunk because he's bipolar or depressed, and then the booze leads him to act violently.) She definitely needs to get some help to deal with the violence in her past. Wish her the best - just because this happened to her or because she has a messed up family does not mean she cannot still have a very happy life. Just work hard to not repeat the mistakes of her family and don't follow those patterns. Hang around nice people - not jerks! You'd be amazed what a difference that makes! (And ESPECIALLY - don't marry a jerk!)

Yes.

Severe childhood trauma especially for an undeserved act or severely out of proportion to the possible misdeed which is not allowed to be addressed and suitably resolved (ventilated) can find a corner in the psyche.
It can seemingly grow and appear anew in similar situations or be unmasked in times of personal emotional crisis or severe.

It is mentioned that the case is diagnosed as depression, I assume possibly on treatment by pills. At times in a busy clinic it is not possible to receive proper counselling.

Generally, the treatments of depression take a prolonged period of time and teenage is a dificult time to hold one's attention for months on an issue!

There are behavioral therapies including CBT which offer uniformly good results.Do talk it over with ur doctor regarding alternative treatments as adjuncts or replacement altogether.Properly treated and with support of significant others it is possible to be cured of this condition.

Good luck.

Yes this could very well be the source of her problems but i'm deffently sure its linked, once your abused in life it stays with you for the rest of your life just like a scar. No matter what age you were when you were abused it will remain with you. I think this 16 year old should go see her doctor and try to get a refferal to see a counsellor she needs to speak. she needs to be heard. Good Luck, i wish you all the best x x x

It is unlikely that the 2 incidents of physical abuse are related to the developement of depression 12 years later. My concern would be more along the lines of a PTSD like reaction.

I would say the abuse has something/a lot to do with the depression. I am a cutter, but I was never abused, for someone to try to commit suicide in kindergarten is very sad I didn't think kids that age knew about/how to commit suicide. I think they are all linked to each other.

I am so glad you aren't cutting anymore. The picture you posted a while back of a cut looked really infected. Are you still taking your anti depressants? Perhaps talking to a mental health professonal will give you a better answer than we can.

Good luck and take care of you!
