The earliest gospel (Mark's) was written about 30 years after Jesus died. The latest gospel (John's) was written possibly as much as 70 years after Jesus died. None of the Gospels shows evidence of actually having been written by an eyewitness to Jesus life. They all appear to be collections of stories and anecdotes passed down orally for decades and then written down by an editor. The longest "discourse" of Jesus (the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew) is clearly a patchwork quilt of various items stitched together to make it look like a complete sermon. The long theological discourses in John all appear to be short sayings followed by long theological treatises which were later additions by the author of the Gospel, not the words of Jesus. There is no need to call upon Satan to explain this, it's just a feature of human memory and oral transmission.
EDIT for Pastorart1974: This is false about finding a copy of Matthew's gospel that dates to within a decade of Jesus' death. If anything at all was found (which I doubt), it was perhaps a few sayings from the so-called "Q" source, which was NOT Matthew's gospel, but sayings of Jesus that happen to have wound up in Matthew's gospel. Matthew's gospel was NOT found.

properly, historic records written after the actual fact *can* be authentic, so it is not "data" that the bible is fake. It easily does, notwithstanding, call into question the accuracy of any "costs" attributed to jesus on the grounds that not one of the gospel writers ever heard a observe he spoke. i'm bowled over on the variety of solutions right here that claimed the gospels have been all written with the help of jesus' disciples who knew him individually. they are somewhat blind to *christian* scholarship which has shown convincingly it somewhat isn't the case. At any cost, there is little to no data to help the concept that any of the gospels have been written with the help of eyewitnesses, or inspite of the help of individuals named Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. Peace.

Yeah I think if you just read everything Jesus ever said (as far as recorded in the Bible) he only spoke for 30 minutes. From what I understand a lot of what Jesus said and did was destroyed, and now some of his miracles are just myths. If you want to hear more Jesus stories, I suggest looking into some Gnostic bibles. You will find stories that were just left out, of the Bible when they decided to canonized it. What people don't realize is that before they canonized the bilbe, all those biblicle stories, were used to spread the word of Christ. A lot of them are very interesting and believe it or not, a lot of those stories are in the Qu'ran.

Have to say I don't agree with you on this one. Most of the Gospels are what Jesus is supposed to have said - the Sermon on the Mount anyone? The Last Supper oration to the Apostles? Chapters and chapters of Jesus' sayings!
The sections of the Gospels which are narrative are designed to illustrate moral and spiritual truths. Christ's story contains within it the path to Union with God. The actions of Christ, the events of his life in the Gospels, all have significant meanings too which are often profounder than the sayings themselves.

they recorded what they were supposed to. everything that is neccessary. i forget at the moment where it is in the bible, but it says that Jesus did so much while he was here on earth that to try and write it all,you would not have enough room for it all. it would take up all the space. i know i'm not wording it correctly, i will try to find this verse today, and if i can i will come back and add it on.

More was written about Jesus than was written about most others of his day.
A copy of Matthew's Gospel has been found which has been dated within five years of the life of Jesus.
Enough of Jesus' Words were recorded to change the world.

Jesus IS the Word and He speaks throughout the entire Bible, not just the Gospels.

For one thing they were too busy learning from him and were too busy being persecuted for faith in Jesus. The rest of what Christ taught and did are part of Oral Tradition.
Protestants make the mistake of thinking that everything was written down, it wasn't. Thats where the Catholic Church comes in. The sources of Divine revelation, the "Deposit of Faith" is scripture, and oral tradition as expressed in the Church's living Magisterium.
Sola Scriptura was never a Church teaching, It was invented by the Reformer of the 16th century, 1500 years after Christ.

Because they never met Jesus. They lived 40 years or more after his death. Read "The Mythmaker, Paul and the Invention of Christianity" by Hyam Maccoby

Let's allow the Apostle John to answer, shall we?
"And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen."
"But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."
Good enough for the Disciple whom Jesus loved....good enough for me.
