She is NOT too old for protection that is why diaper manufacturers make diaper products for babies, toddlers, children, and adults. The whole issue is how you treat the situation. It doesn't matter whether you put a product that is named a "diaper" or a "pullup" on a child they are the same thing, a diaper. How you treat the situation is the key, you treat all products as "protection". I wet the bed as a child for many years and I was put into diapers for protection. We didnt make a big deal about it just like I don't make a big deal of it with my child. My 4 1/2 year old started wetting the bed and he is now wearing the pampers size 7 diaper at nite for protection. I choose to use a "diaper" because I think they fit and absorb better and so we dont have any leaks. Everyone makes a big deal out of putting a child back in protection and I use this word protection because all of the protection products are diapers no matter if the package says pullups/goodnites or diapers. I think it would be more degrading for a child to keep waking up in a wet bed than a wet diaper.
I think a 6 yr old is a little young to be spending the nite at a friends house but no matter how you look at it, its going to be embarassing situation. Even though her friend probably wets the bed also, the situation is turned around when it happens to you at someone elses house so even if she had to wear a diaper or pullup that might be embarassing as well as wetting the bed with out protection would be embarassing. I would wait and not have her spend the night at a friends house until she gets a little older.

At that age, bedwetting is common and there is a possibility that pull-ups are the only solution until she grows out of it. However, maybe you could try taking her to the bathroom every hour after dinner until bedtime, and then try one night without pull-ups. See how it goes. If it goes well, try another. If it doesn't but you're game for another, then try another. The hardest kids to potty train at night are the deep sleepers. My 5 year old son is potty trained in the daytime, but he still wears pull-ups to bed. He doesn't wet every night, maybe 3 or 4 nights a week on average, but the pull-ups allow us to have a restful night of sleep without changing sheets. So I think you should experiment for a few nights, see how it goes, and make a decision from there. :)

Try goodnights. They are specially for her age group.
There are also medications now that help with this. Someone should take her to the pediatrician.
From some of the posts I'm reading, I don't think people realize that going to the bathroom before kids go to bed does not always assure they will not wet the bed. At age six, this is a mental or physical issue, not a case of a child who didn't do something she was supposed to do. She probably can't control it yet. This is not uncommon. I think if she could control it, she would. I doubt she meant to wet the bed in front of her friend.

I wouldn't put her in pull ups as they are made for toddlers. There are pants called GoodNights that are made for older kids. She needs to know that there's nothing wrong with her and there are lots of kids who wet the bed. If she is put in Goodnights, she will not wake up to a wet bed or the embarassment of wetting.

She is not too old to wear pull ups. There are several brands who cater to older kids who wet the bed. Goodnites are the ones my friends use. They are made for kids up to 125lbs.

No she is not too old to wear pull-ups. My stepson wet the bed until he was 13. Doctors can sometimes help this, and sometimes it is just something they have to grow out of.

i would say the pull ups are extreme for a 6 year old..thatd be mortifying she needs to learn..i read somewhere that you need to make sure you dont give them any liquids like 1-2 hours before bed and if theyre still wetting the bed you begin to wake them up once in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, because the problem is that when her bladder has to go shes sleeping right through all of the signals she get during the day...good luck
