Six feet under by Mary Roach explores this question in depth. There is no doubt that our energy cannot end and has to pass on to somewhere and some have even tried to weigh individuals at the time of death to establish when our soul departs and how much it weighs! The above book has too many examples to mention here, and I'll not spoil its conclusion so that you can enjoy the ride!

The concept of a soul or spirit originally came from people breathing. In Hebrew, Greek, and Latin the words for "spirit" and "breath" are the same.
The Bible even indicates that the soul is a breath:
Genesis 2:7 "And (God) breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
A lot of people have believed, in the past, that your very last breath was your spirit leaving your body.
Even God's spirit, the Holy Spirit, is associated with air. In the Bible, on the day of Pentecost, the arrival of the Holy Spirit is described as a "mighty wind".
Acts 2:2
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
So, when a person dies, their spirit supposedly goes out into the open air, or at least, that seems to have been the original idea.
The more modern concepts of the soul have, of course, evolved into quite different forms. However, it seems pretty obvious, that originally, mankind believed their breath was their soul.

Deep question! Deep answer!
The Soul in man is a power (A ray of Gods light) that has been placed in the heart of man. If man comes to an understanding of this, he then has a chance to discover his true birthright.
Where the Soul is stationed when leaving the human body, is
truly in the hands of the human regarding the studies he has undertaken and accomplished during his sojourn to this place called earth!

Definition: In the Bible, “soul” is translated from the Hebrew ne′phesh and the Greek psy·khe′. Bible usage shows the soul to be a person or an animal or the life that a person or an animal enjoys. To many persons, however, “soul” means the immaterial or spirit part of a human being that survives the death of the physical body. Others understand it to be the principle of life. But these latter views are not Bible teachings. Ezek. 18:4: “Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul* that is sinning—it itself will die."

IMHO the soul is the Energy that is us and that some people call the Aura. We are of the same Energy as the Creator. That is where we came from and that is where we will return. We do not die. We just change the speed at which our energy vibrates in order to leave the physical world.

The soul or spirit is invisible and inside the body. This is why a body is dead when the spirit has left it. In the Bible King Solomon said that after death, the spirit goes back to God who gave it.

Soul is a type of music, often found on a CD. When you die it will normally be thrown in the bin, unless someone in your family shares the same poor taste.
Hope this helps.

Your soul is the whole mental part of your being. Think of your body as just a carriage for your soul which decides the way you think, the way you respond, the way you assimilate knowledge, your 'savoir faire' the part of you that makes choices in life and subsequently after the death of your earthly body..whether you go to Heaven or stay with satan and his demons.
Best wishes, Mike.

A soul is a re-usable commodity that is adopted by people to understand situations. When you die, you will no longer be able to access this virtue.
