I don't see why it's a big deal. It doesn't have to conflict with religion anyway.
If you want to call me by what my evolutionary past is, you have to also call me each creature before the ape, all the way back down to the single-celled organisms. You may as well say I'm an amoeba.
But again, what does it matter? I am what I am, not what my ancestors were.

I am a Theist and an Evolutionist. Many people think this is an oxymoron, but I'm not like other Theists. I believe that Nature itself is divine and Evolution is natural progression.

Humans seem to have lost touch with the 'great' part of it.
But seriously, I'd rather be related to animals than some of the people you find on here.

Sometimes I am Grape ape.
:)
Yeah, I'm an ape. If I wasn't, I'd be a Vegan.

I've got no problem with it. Aside from actually having read a science book once (tongue definitely in cheek), I find it less offensive than thinking my earliest ancestor was made of dirt.

Who denies evolution?
"Not I," said the duck... "I don't deny the truth of it."
"Not I," said the horse... "We've all come for lesser starts."
"Not I," said the turkey... "We all have common ancestors."
"Not I," said the pig... "I wallow in the pool of my beginnings."
"I deny it." said the christian... "I deny all the known facts."
"I deny it." said the muslim... "I deny knowledge, too."
"I deny it." said the jew... "I deny it all, every little bit of it."
And then the animals killed the god-believers and made a delicious god-believer stew of them upon which the animals all dined well for they had evolved into the masters of their land, they had learned and accepted the truth of their surroundings and knew full well how to tempt and attract the weaker-minded game into their traps.

Nah...doesn't really matter to me, as long as I don't start growing hair in unwanted places. Seriously: really, it doesn't change anything.
