That's okay. A lot of little boys start out by sitting on the toilet first. After a while, especially if they have a male role model to copy, they will do it standing up.

Also, you can try giving him a target to aim at in the toilet, like cheerios. But let him do it his way first. He's showing an interest in using the toilet. That's the first hurdle to overcome. AND... in this area of parenting, I firmly believe bribes are okay, even a necessity! M&Ms and stickers work wonders with real young ones. If, by age 4, he's not yet potty trained, I say bring out the big guns... We used Disneyland as a prize. When a few months passed without a single accident, we went to the happiest place on earth. It was a prize for us as well as him!

Either he needs to see other big boys do it or a boyfriend/spouse. Otherwise, don't stress it! I have a young son that sometimes stands, sometimes sits.

It is fine! He probably has watched YOU and that is what he has learned! It is fine. He will get it over time. Just be thankful that he is USING the toilet!!

No need to stress on this one. Let him sit if he wants. I had a potty chair in the bathroom and my son and I would go together! He learned to sit (and wipe...lol) from being with me! It is fine now, so don't worry!

Good Luck and remember that potty training is a developmental milestone for the child. It isn't a reflection on the parents at all. So let nature happen and everything will be fine!

Let him sit down its hard enough for a child to potty train without having to worry about standing up to do it. Once he grasps the concept of needing the toilet and going at the right time then you can introduce standing up. Maybe if he went to the toilet with a male from the family that may also encourage this.

If he happy sitting on the potty or the toilet bowl, then just let him be. Once he maintains potty train, you can ask your husband to teach how to stand up and pee.

When my son started potty training I bought some stickers he liked (fire trucks, race cars, etc.) and put them at the bottom of the pot part of the potty chair. When he had to go, I would tell him to go 'pee pee' on the fire truck. We made a game out of it and it made him aim at the bottom of the potty better too.

It's pretty normal for boys to start out in the sitting position on the potty... just make sure he's aiming it into the potty. :)

If he sees other little boys using it the other way, he'll probably be inspired.

He doesn't have to stand up. Most little potty trainees learn sitting down and pushing their penis down. When they get bigger, or more comfortable with using the potty, then they can start to stand up. Let him go how he wants. You don't want to discourage him.

Well, remember to reward him when he stands up and when he needs to go to the little boys room, ask him why he wont stand up. If he still wont stand up, tell him how to do it, maybe he'll think its not so bad. You should get a husband or boyfriend to show him, or a brother. If that STILL doesn't work you should tell him how embarrassing it will be if other boys at school when he grows up finds out, but it takes time yah know, everyone grows at their own pace!

Has he seen a bigger boy or a man urinate standing up?

If he knows that's how guys do it and refuses to stand, he's telling you he's not ready. Wait several months before trying again.

This is one place where a powerless child has total control, and if you pressure him, he may grow even more resistant to the idea.
