I have a three year old male cat who is fixed. For some reason, he goes into my son's room and gets this toy rooster and brings it out and drops it in the middle of the floor. He used to do this with my sons Big Bird stuffed animal but when he got the rooster he stopped doing it with Big Bird. He does it mostly when we are gone but he does do it sometimes when we are there and when he is carrying it in his mouth he makes this really weird crying meow. I am just wondering why he does this. he doesn't play with it after he drops it, he just leaves it there. What is the deal?

Again, he DOES NOT touch the thing the rest of the day. He doesn't hump it or anything else. He just drops it.

My friend who has a male cat that does the same thing with her clothes - usually ones that she has worn and have her scent freshly on them. She comes home and finds them strewn all over the house. Chances are your son liked his new toy better than Big Bird and it had more of his scent on it, so it is now the chosen toy. Have no idea why he does it in the first place and it seems only a few cats do it, mostly males.

If he's giving that weird cry, it's a hunting call! We've got one that gets all excited about a piece of rope she likes, and she drags it all over in the morning 'singing' to it. Then leaves it in the hallway and ignores it.

Yours is hunting, he's VERY proud of what he caught and 'killed' and is singing about it. Completely normal, give him some praise and tell him he's a great hunter to protect you from the awful rooster.

As a owner of nine cats...I would bet he is the only cat you have. Cats are social creatures and it sounds as though he wants others of his kind to play with, sleep with, and groom with. I would get another cat to make him feel better. A kitten would probably be best. Male cats actually will accept other cats faster than the females.

u must praise him! when he is meowing, he is saying "look at this great prize i brought u!!" he thinks he killed a bird and he is bringing it to you as a present. outdoor cats leave mice and bords at your doorstep, so it is the same thing with house cats. my cat does the same thing with socks, and he acts so proud when we say thank nelly! to him and pet him. he doesnt touch it the rest of the day because it is for you!

My female cat does something similar. My cat, Sarah finds things, and puts them on my bed and howls until I see them. IMO I think that, he leaving you a gift. Outdoor cats do the same thing, although they bring dead or semi dead animals and drop them off...

My cat's brother was done as well and you don't want to know what he used to do with a cuddly toy polar bear.

maybe hes giving you presents.... he may think that it is a real bird, since cats usually get dead birds and rodents and give them to you as 'presents'
