I have been dieting and exercising for about a month. Not following a certain eating plan, just cutting calories, fat and trying to cut portions, adding fiber, fruits vegetables. You know, eating HEALTHY. Anyway, for breakfast I usually eat one cup of cereal with 1 cup of milk and a fruit. This morning I ate a bagel with 2 tablespoons (the serving size) of fat free cream cheese, which ended up being less calories than the cereal and fruit that I usually eat. But now I just feel horrible, like I cheated on my diet or something. Why do I feel like this, when the bagel with cream cheese was less calories and less fat? Do I feel guilty because it was so yummy and now I feel like I've been "bad"?

I think you struck the nail on the head when you said you feel guilty because it was yummy. You did not eat anything that is going to ruin your diet. Do not feel guilty for enjoying food.

It does you good to have a treat once in a while, even when you're on a diet. What you ate was in no way bad, it was still very healthy and you enjoyed it without eating any extra calories. Try and do it more often and change up what you eat once in a while so you don't feel so 'bad' when you eat something different from your usual diet foods.

As long as you keep your calories right and don't have too much bad fat you'll continue to lose weight whatever good foods you choose to eat.

You are probably feeling guilty, but there's no need to! If you don't want the guilt to last, you could either get some light exercise or plan to make your next meal super healthy.

To make the bagel choice healthier (if you haven't done so already), you can choose whole wheat bagels rather than white, which have more nutritional value. But I really wouldn't worry about it- you haven't hurt your diet at all. Don't give up!!!
