My cross country coach gave me suggestions through the mail on how to practice for the next season and one day he wants me to do farlek running.

Fartlek is a free form of interval training, rather than having run for 2 mins, jog for 1 etc. you have run till tired, jog till recovered etc. Its meant to be a relaxed run where you keep alternating up and down between different speeds as you run along, but with no attention needing to be paid to time or mileage.

Hope that helps

Fartlec is running long slow distance with periods of faster running thrown in. It's kinda playful in that you get to run like you feel.

fartlek running is when you are running at a consistant pace but ad random points durig your run you'll explode and just go or you'll pick up the pace. you can pick up the face for as long as you want and you can run as fast as you want during that time period. the best way to do this type of run is when your ready to pick up the pace, pick a target in front of you and just run to it at a faster pace that you were going at earlier (stop sign, street sign, mcdonalds sign, etc).
