According to mental health professionals, pedophilia is not connected to celibacy or homosexuality.

This very small group of child molesters would be just as sick or evil whether or not they had taken a vow of celibacy.

For more information, see "10 Myths about Priestly Pedophilia": http://www.catholiceducation.org/articles/facts/fm0011.html

With love in Christ.

Aaahhh, another misinformed bigot heard from.

A) Statistically, there are fewer pedophiles in Holy Orders than in almost every other profession.

B) And sexual repression is NOT what we're about here. We advocate the disciplined use of this bodily function in ways that do NOT cause harm. This means no promiscuity, no adultery and for those who feel called to a vocation in the priesthood, the sacrifice of sexuality in service to Christ and His Church.

C) UNrepressed sexuality brings some or all of the following:
1. sexually transmitted diseases, at least 2 of which can be fatal (AIDS and syphilis), 2 of which are incurable (Chlamydia and genital herpes), 2 of which can result in sterility even if eventually cured (gonorrhea, and syphilis). A large price to pay for one's "fun".
2. adultery, arm-chair psychologists' opinions notwithstanding, destroys the family unit by destroying trust among its members, including the children. This is not going to produce a secure support system for either the spouses OR the offspring in the event of crisis.

D) Celibacy is not easy for some. The tougher it is the less likely a candidate one is for the priesthood. But the fault lies not with the Church and its strictures, but with those individuals whose pride prevents them from admitting to their weakness and leaving a calling which has the lovely perk of a high level of respect in most cases.

Catholics put their trust in a priest. Gods word said call no one father but me. The catholics are not the only ones...men and women that do not have faith in God nor understand the words of the Bible...or not guided by the spirit....so when the Devil builds a nest in their mind of perversion...they act on it. Clergy anyone in any denominations is capable of that. You have to think about it before one does it. Premeditated. The world is unhealthy with their lust....everything is in the[ world like churches.] Romans 1 is just and act? Get real. The women and the men or doing it. They also have children...guess what!

Do you know any Catholics ?
I was brought up in a Catholic home with 5 brothers
and 3 sisters and none us sprung from trees!
This was in Texas, and I became a well known
athlete ----it all started with good legs from running
after girls and from some of them---- in a Catholic
School run by nuns---
Now I have moved with my latest wife to the
Philippines---a predominately Catholic country---
one of my neighbors has 17 children----and
I lost 2 of my household help recently because
they have decided to shack up with their boy-
friends (one was 16 and she just finished study
in a Catholic H.S.) I am taking bets there will be
2 more babies in the neighborhood soon !
I have often chided my brother who is a retired
Monsignor ----telling him the Catholic Church
wants more babies so there will be more Catholics!
He didn't argue the point, and I don't think the Pope
would disagree!
It works that way in Politics also---why do you suppose
we have so many Republicans ?

Christian morality isn't the best guidelines to live by when many can promote lies, hatred, bigotry and intolerance Look at the answers so far - one has mentioned adultery whilst another talks about STD's which are showing how they try to scare people whilst avoiding the question. I think that many people don't like sex and so they don't want others to be having sex/making love unless the christian moralistic control-freaks can say when repression doesn't help

Just because someone does not engage in sex does not mean they are pedophiles. One must also remember all the so called priests(I call them that because they were not true men of God, just men with an agenda)that did these crimes against young boys were all homosexuals who had infiltrated the seminaries and churches in a way to stay away from homosexual activity. But instead they molested young boys and pre teen boys.

Took me a while to understand the theory of it all. I asked a pastor about this, and he said: "there is nothing wrong with mastabation, or being gay etc. but ultimatly who does it benefit? only yourself."

So what I gather is that there is nothing wrong with sexuality ITSELF, but it leads into temptation to become selffish and uncharitable. Priests are supposed to serve no-one but their community and God. Sexuality is discouraged because the doctrine is to become selfless. However this is very hard to do, and the church has the the power of forgivness.

The dumb Catholics have 7 extra books in THEIR Bible.

The Holy Spirit guided Martin Luther to throw them in the dustbin.

Thats the wrong question.
It should be- when will the catholic church learn to recognize perverts before they become priest?
These perverts should be executed, and anyone who protects them.
