An apartment complex near me has a sign that reads M-O-N-T-R-E-U-X, but on the TV commercial they pronounce it "Mawn-troe" I thought the spelling of that French word was M-O-N-T-R-E-A-U-X. Notice the missing "A" in their sign? I think the sign maker screwed up. What do you think?

Probably not. There's a city in Switzerland on Lake Geneva named Montreux, so that is a good spelling.

Montreux is the correct spelling for the town that hosts the film festival and others. Non-French often completely mess with the native pronunciation.
