What do you think about bringing back the Oldsmobile brand? I say go for it, but the image would have to be redeveloped.

I guess I should have clarified. I do want the brand there, kind of merging with Buick (the cars would be similar styling, but carry the Buick name). Pontiac and Saturn can go. Hummer and GMC could combine to form the truck division.

Well, Randy P, I am a little biased. I live in a GM town that once had 5 operating plants at once. They made the Grand Am, Malibu, Alero, SSR, CTS, STS, and SRX. Now, all but the Cadillac plant is shut down and is being demolished. A new plant about 15 miles away makes the Outlook, Acadia, and Enclave. However, since the other plants are closed, over 30,000 people were out of work. Many were forced to move or work two jobs. GM has supported my family for generations--the first GM employee in my family hired in in 1934.

Yes. Yes. Yes. I and my family have owned Olds for decades. Once the great motor car, lost to those who bought cheap and made Toyota and others rich and able to produce reliable but unamerican-in-design-and-feel=cars. When we lost Detroit we lost much of America. Goes back to what is happening with the borders.

BUICK is next soon GMC Chevrolet Saturn and Cadillac. Are all in danger. USA government bail out happened a week ago why are people not paying attention? Chrysler was paid 1.5 billion in the 80's every one knew about that. Now USA bails out auto makers again but over 150 billion and not even a whisper?

GM is one of the worst vehicles out. I have a 2005 Trailblazer, had a 2004 Malibu, and have a 2000 Express van for my business and all of them are junk. If I had time every one would be in the shop every month. Lights flickering, no power, paint coming off on the inside panels etc. I just got a Honda and NO problems. I feel bad for people losing there jobs, but its because of the cheap products. Don't bring nothing back until they get it right.

Get rid of Buick GMC and Pontiac too. Just look at Toyota and Lexus... Chevrolet and Cadillac is all that is needed. Either that or go bankrupt! Just make really good cars and customers will come back. Mixing up all the brands is costly same chassis but all those different parts. Mas production part interchangeability is that not what Colt Firearms and Henry Ford made famous?

Don't see it happening.

The cost of bringing it back and remarketing the brand would be too much for them to bother with it. They need to reduce costs, not add more costs to themselves, which is why it was cut in the first place.

Actually, I could see them cutting another line of vehicles before I see them bringing back the Olds.

Bring back the Olds? Hey, why not bring back the Packard, Hudson, DeSoto, Henry J, Studebaker, Plymouth, etc.?
Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it?

I drive a Nissan pickup truck (had it for 10 years and still no problems), and my wife drives a Toyota. Both are good, dependable cars. The Japanese go to great lengths to control the quality of their vehicles. Unfortunately our automakers have slacked off on that and even now with the onslaught of foreign competition, they are still reluctant to do it. In my opinion, lack of quality control is the direct cause of the demise of the American auto industry.
