The Great Barrier Reef is a must! White water rafting is fun, if you're a little scared about that then stick to the Barron River (it's fairly tame), but if you want more excitement then ride the Tully River.
Definitely check out the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation, absolutely spectacular! Kuranda is just north of Cairns, it also has rainforest and you can take a train up and then the sky rail down or vice versa.

sleeping... hot air balloons... 4 wheel drives... horse riding... white water rafting... scuba diving (great barrier reef)... pretty much the same things you can do anywhere else down under...
