Its a tough question with no real answer. If I were you I would go to a Wal Mart or a good store that carries bows. Try some out and see what draw weight suits you best. Then buy it all on the Internet as it is the cheapest there. Most bows are a standard length and most people can hold them comfortably (not true if you want a long bow). You want something that is strong enough to chuck an arrow a good distance, but still be able to shoot for hours. Make sure you can draw the bow repeatedly, because going back to the gym sucks when you realize you can only shoot for 10 minutes. Also, for you first time get high quality arrows with a very strong point and a solid nock (the little "Y" where you put the sting of the bow). The cheep ones brake the first time you hit anything hard like wood. Have fun shooting!!!

OMG
Do not buy a bow from one of the marts. Gander Mountain or an independent archery shop is the way to go. Half the battle is getting the bow set up correctly for you.
Go somewhere were the salespeople hunt.
All u really need once u choose a bow is a mechanical release, a peep sight, and an adjustable bow sight.

that guy is right mever buy a bow from a mart archery equipment must be tuned and precisely matched to you and only a good bow technician can do this in time it will become easy for you try a forgiveing bow with a nice brace height if over seven inches (distance betwwen string and handle) most modern bows have plenty of adjustment so don't bne shy I am your size and I shoot about 70lbs but you won't have the right musles yet when I started I was pulling 60lbs y ou will develop the musles you need to draw in short order if you practice alot I own a fred bear G2 it is a premium bow without the premium price tag mine is quieter than any other bow I have ever seen even the mathews and hoyt don't compare in quietness but they are faster but they do not shoot any smoother in my opinion I test fired a alot of equipment when I bought it and for the money it is tough to beat

Go to a archery shop and get fitted by them. There are to many variables when buying a compound bow. Like if you are going to use a release, poundage of bow, arrow weight, etc. you will be way better off and satisfied with your purchase. and we cannot stand to loose another person for the sport.

You need to go to a Archery store and let them fit you to a bow, they will measure your length of pull and arrows. Most places do this for free if you are buying a bow there and will let you sight your bow in at the range also.

Recommend going to a good archery store. They will let you
view the various types. And after deciding-meaure you for proper fit. Also tell you what weight of arrows to use. And cut them for size. Will cost more than buyng from one of the "marts". But will save you money and time later.
Some even have 20-30 yard indoor ranges where you can get shooting lessons from them.

you don't need a hard pulling bow .a 55 lb is enough to kill anything you well come into in cali.shoot the bow all the time .the lighter the pulll the more your going to pull it and that well make you a good shot not more power in fact more is never good when it comes to bow pull .
