Summary: no younger than age 3; depends on the school

The simple answer is that it depends entirely on your child and on the school/instructor you choose. There are instructors that are perfectly capable of handling young children, and there are those that don't have a clue what they're doing. What style is almost irrelevant because the things that a 3, 4,5 or 6 year old are learning are common throughout all styles, namely: awareness, discipline, listening skills, teamwork, speed, balance, etc. You need to take the time to find the school where you know they will be able to handle your child (watch lots of classes and ask lots of questions!). A good school should be able to handle any child ages 3 and up, IF and ONLY IF they have a suitable program for them (3 year olds should not be with 5 year olds for example); this means that if your child is having separation or discipline issues, the instructor needs to be able to handle the situation, either through private lessons or doing special 10 - 15' classes with the child with the parents involved.

How long to get a black belt? Walk out of any school immediately that guarantees a black belt within x number of years. This is also ENTIRELY dependent on your child and the school. There is NO set time frame, anywhere between 1.5 to 100 years! Plus, if you are interested in true martial arts, remember, the black belt is first in your mind, then in your heart; the one on your waist is just decoration.

It really depends on the child as there are some dynamics that can really impact this. I have seen some five/six year olds take to martial arts like a duck to water. Others try it, and it soon gets replaced with something else that catches their attention and interest. Also they have so many preconceived ideas from cartoons, movies, and television that when they find out it is not like that they also lose interest. Sometimes they can be influenced or motivated to try martial arts or stay with it if an older sibling or parent is doing it also. Most children are not ready to start until six or seven years old. For a dedicated child that trains 4-5 times per week it should take about four years for them to achieve black belt. Some schools and systems promote much faster than that but a few years is not really much time for anyone to learn, practice, and develop their skill to a level that is associated with the rank of black belt.

It depends on the style. Younger childeren, though they start earlier, they typically have a problem of concentration, due to their age and limit attention span. It's more ideal to get them a little older, so they can become mature. If you child is mild-mannered and is naturally inquisitive, then they should be good around 7-8. The classes depend on the school as well as the time to become a blackbelt. I warn you that a black belt is not a master. They just got all the basics down my sensei always states. Personally I think it's wiser to pick a school that goes on merit rather than time, because some people will need more time to master that skill and others need less. If you do time, they can push your kid through the gates.

There is no proper age to learn anything provided passion and interest play a very important role, and by the age of 5 to 6 when the child is mentally, physically and emotionally fit, Do not strain the child but make a plan and an analysis SWOT ie strengths, weakness, opportunities, threats and make a decision. Its is also better for the child to play and get creative and make some good decisions. Remember it is good for the child in the long run but choose wisely as it may also have negative aspects too the child sometimes will lose human relationships, do not talk to people and sometimes develop an superiority complex and this can be avoided by making a right decision at a right time and do not force him.. a dog will also retaliate when u push him towards the wall

As said already this really depends on the child and the level of self discipline they have. I would suggest 8. Check out Wing Chung if you will and see what you think it is highly suggested. Try to build up interest in the child and they will be ready to start sooner. Just make sure they are interested, and not bored keep her practicing and reward her. Try even going with her if you canthis will create an instinctive interest of "I want to do it because mommy's doing it" and then build from that.

They should start No Earlyer then 6 years old(at the very earliest generally)

They should have the self restraint and disipline to know not just use this stuff to show off or to start fights.

The one thing you should know is that if the school gives her a Blackbelt before the age of 13 years that it is not a legit blackbelt. What I mean by that is don't give yourself a false sense of security that you 10 year old can handle herself since she is a Blackbelt vs an adult. Before the age of 13 a child(boy or girl) doesn't usually have the strength to do alot of the things they will teach them to an adult(even if it is mainly is a leverage move) They will be better able to defend themselfs just don't get that false sense of security.

Different classes/styles will have different rules regarding what age you can start. The time it takes to reach black belt depends on the style, how much you practice at home, and how many lessons you attend. Some styles may have different belt systems for children.

it takes about 2 or three years to become a black belt but it depends on what form of karate and there is no set age of when to start but if you are under the age of ten and you reach you black belt status they will give the black belt but you will not be able to go on to your degrees of black belt do to age and maturity you will be black belt recommended
