I recently spent the night over at a friend's apartment (on the floor under a quilt), and when I got back home I noticed I had about 7 insect bites around the ankles. I had brought with me a backpack which was left on the floor.

I was wondering if its likely that I brought back fleas with me, either on my clothes or in the backpack, and how likely it would be that they'd reproduce and cause a huge problem.

Thanks for any feedback.

Is there anything that sets flea bites apart from other bites? He says he doesn't have fleas, but he does have a cat. So i was wondering if maybe the cat might have brought in a few and those got on me?

Although it may just have been a spider or something.

I hate to disagree with everyone else, but I really wouldn't worry about it. I recently got a kitten from the Humane Society and she had fleas. She was too young to give a flea bath so I just had to deal with it. I never saw fleas anywhere but on the kitten and once she was old enough to bathe, I never saw another flea again.

Fleas don't prefer people for feeding. If you have a lot of pets, it might be a problem, I guess, but otherwise don't worry about it unless you start to see fleas everywhere.

If that happens (and again, I seriously don't think it will), just get some flea powder for your carpet. If you have pets, invest in some Revolution or one of the other kinds you put on the back of their necks. That stuff seriously works.

OH yes you should be worried! We are battling them here in my house. My son's best friend has pets with fleas and he "shared" them with us on one of his visits.
*Don't waste your time or money on the carpet powder, not much help and it is a big hassle (my first mistake).
I went to the local farm supply here where I live and bought a carpet spray. It was a bit more expensive, but in the long run it worked MUCH better than the powder.
note: you can also get a good spray from a vet but it is pretty costly.
*Treat your furniture as well as your carpets (my second mistake).
*treat areas thoroughly and then do it again in 2 to 3 weeks.
*if you have pets, treat them too. My son has a hamster and she got a treatment too (with flea spray created for small pets)
*be vigilant!!!
(A lot of people swear by flea bombs, but with the spray you don't have to leave your home).
GOOD LUCK!

Oranges 2 o:
They could have been brought in by his cat but there are other kinds of fleas too. I have posted a link about fleas for you.
Not everyone gets bitten by fleas. I am the only one in my household to be bitten by them. The flea bites I got are tiny little red spots, mostly around my feet and they itch like crazy!!!! I actually had to go to the doctor to get medicine for the bites as the usual stuff didn't help me at all. My son's friend and his mom aren't being bitten while his brother is. One way to find out for sure if fleas are in your home is to lay a white towel or cloth on your carpet. Check in an hour or so to see if there are any little hopping critters on it. That is how I knew for sure they invaded my home.

all it takes is one flea and you will have a lot of problems. More than likely they did come back with you. Clean everything you had with you as fast as possible. I've had this happen just from visiting someone who had a houseful of fleas.

Fleas do travel with you. perhaps you should bomb your house with flea bombs aerosol cans that spray a soloution into the air.you must vacate your premises for a few hours.
DOES YOUR FRIEND NOT FEEL THEIR BITES

i think you may have because fleas jump a lot so you are bound to have brought one back on you or your stuff. just wash your stuff and yourself right away and maybe that will help them from spreading...you might kill them all before they have time to make themselves at home.
