Source: World war Two. Dec 1941 to Sept 1945. Fast forward to 2007. Over four years in Iraq. The USA can not beat the rag tag insurgents. Why? ( Could it be the Iraq war is wrong?) Should the USA military feel ashamed?

I can't believe some of the idiots on here?! Must be part of that 29% who still believe Bush is a great president?

We are training the insurgents who fight against us.

We are training our own killers.

The Iraqi military will never "stand up" so that we can stand down, because the Iraqi military is filled with different religious sects who have no intention of supporting this U.S. created government.

In previous wars, it was considered treason to make a profit on the war effort, now, the republicans who still support Bush, believe it's fashionable to make billions off the blood of our soldiers. This is war profiteering at the expense of the American taxpayer, and our soldiers, and some of you are gullible enough to blame liberals, or the media?!

Need I remind you that the Republicans voted down the Leahy amendment which would've outlawed war profiteering?

Wake up get a fricking life and learn something about what this administration is doing to our nation!!

The Americans cannot beat Insurgents because of the mass media coverage. Not to mention(and I know some people are going to get mad) our president. Back then there was media coverage, but not to the extent of today's time. Whereas the reporters are allowed to be so close to the front line nowadays. (i.e. many reporters getting hurt covering war stories) If the media were not allowed, then the U.S. could really do what they needed to do. It's funny how the Insurgents can bomb the hell out of U.S. Soldiers, but we cannot return the fire in the same way. Then you have soldiers going on trial for war crimes. The only part of the military that should be ashamed are the soldiers that are doing what they have no business doing such as raping children and selling weapons to the Iraqi's. Other than that, they have no choice because they are only doing what is basically their job. But it's not their fault that they are still over there. Once again, blame it on the media, and of course, our president. He is the only one who can cut through the crap and call this war off.

The Marines used to make something of a specialty of counterinsurgency operations, having been derisively called "state department troops" by the press in the 1920's, for example. It can be done, but unless we're willing to depopulate the area completely, which is absurd, we have to expect that it will take the usual ten to thirty years that it has taken in the past. I suspect we're near the top of a surge in casualties now, and if we don't pull the rug out from under our troops we'll probably see a decrease in the casualty rate this summer, and a significant hand-over of many operations to the Iraqi government in the next year or two, but the operation overall will take much longer.

No, Not at all. In World War II we bombed civilians on a Mass scale, and had 12 Million Men Under Arms, an Economy completely gear to war production, a Media that wasnt actively collaborating with the Enemy.

Now we have persons such as yourself, Vichyists for the new age if you will, Who actively seek our defeat for their pathetic sexual frustrations.

The Full Power of the US Military hasnt been turned loose with good reason, we are not Fascist's who wish to kill innnocents.

Doubtful you believe that, much as its doubtful you know the Touch of a Live Woman.

the rules have changed since WWII. In that war, we could bomb the crap out of people. Casualties, both military and civilian, were acceptable and very effective.

The Iraq war is different. The world and our own citizens look at us as being the bad guys, if one civilian is killed. In this war, we are suppose to pick out who is who in the fight. If we bomb a neighborhood that is holding 20 insurgents, but there are 50 civilians, we are labeled as killers, etc. We are not able to win, because it's a political war as well as a necessary war. We don't want to look bad to the rest of the world and take all the criticism for killing civilians, when we all know this war would end much more quickly, if we could bomb targets like in WWII.

You also have to look at Japan and Germany had soldiers in uniform. The insurgents dress like civilians and hid behind women and kids. How are we suppose to fight against people that are cowards like this? We have to hunt them down and try not to kill the civilians they are hiding behind.

Can never win against religious zelots. Bush should have known this going in and never ever started this. That is why I lost respect for him. Iraq needs a civil war like none ever before on this earth so the people themselves can deal with the zelots. We USA need to but out of business in the Middle East as the bible predicts they will destroy the world and the world as the bible knew is the middle east. Let's get out and let them have at it.

Because with the German army and the Japanese army we had an army to fight. Insurgents don't wear uniforms. You can't tell if they're an enemy or just an average civilian until they open up on you. And no, the US military should NOT feel ashamed.

World War 2 was an all out war. We went in help of our allies, plus we had our whole army there in WW2. We don't have our whole army in Iraq, it's spread everywhere. Plus, we don't belong in Iraq. besides, we are not killing innocent people, namely, women and children. the f***heads hide in houses with the women and kids with bombs to detonate when we get close to killing the dudes with the bombs.

because the resistance(not insurgence) hasn't got any army, airforce nor navy.that's why.your armed forces is designed to beat any army, airforce or navy in the world but if your enemy hasn't got any they don't know what to do.
in WW2 germany and japan got their own army, airforce and navy and each of them depends on each other.when one is beaten it will affect the other one.the example can be seen during japanese losses in battle of midway where their navy was beaten.
