I have an 04 Chevy Avalanche I wanted to put one on and the dealer said it could possibly void warranties. Some stock air intake systems may have sensors of some kind in the air path to do what ever the sensors do. If the aftermarket intake is over-oiled or some of the filter oil gets sucked on through to deposit on the sensors, it may cause the sensors to give false readings to the other mechanical/electrical parts to act in a way that may cause warranty issues. When the dealer finds evidence of the oil deposits from the filter that can be traced to the aftermarket oiled type filter, then they state you are to blame for the problem and void a warranty repair. So the installation of the filter doesn't neccessarily void warranties, its the oil that get used and deposited on the other parts that does.

see the box it usually tells you if it voids warranties. And per Chrysler owner manual. " some performance modifications may void your warranty" its a fine line what engineers think is a perf mod. Cold air kits are not considered a perf mod in my book. But I do warranties for FoMOCo and I have mods on my mustang. What do I do? I take them off and put back to stock configuration when taking my stang in for service. It may take 1/2 hr to do. so what its cheaper than paying for service..but once the 5 yr/100,000 mile powertrain warranty is over thats a different story..

it will void your warranty if the aftermarket product directly is the cause of the problem you are bring your car in for service, plus the dealership has to prove that was the case
