Yes its possible, but the great majority of people who are overweight simply take too much food and not enough exercise. If you think you have a problem with hypothyroisim take a look at the link below and if that seems like your symptoms consult a doctor and ask for your thyroid levels to be tested.

It's possible, but for the majority of people it's eating the wrong foods and not exercising. For me, I knew I had a thyroid problem, as I gained 50 pounds and I could not lose it. I was exercising an hour a day and I had all the classic symptoms of the condition. I asked for testing and unfortunately I tested the wrong time of day and I was told I did not have a thyroid problem. I did not know at the time that TSH has to be done first thing in the morning. Most doctors don't know this. Eventually I tested and it showed I did have the condition. If you think you may have it, test in the morning and if possible also get a free t4, free t3, and an antibody test. A TSH over 2.0 shows the gland is slowing down.

More and more people are developing the condition probably because of changes in our food supply and because of the adition of soy, so please get tested. You might also want to test for insulin resistance. I gained weight from being hypothyroid. This weight gain caused the insulin resistance. Now I had two conditions that made it almost imposible for me to lose weight. Once I got them both treated, I lost 30 pounds....so 20 more to go. With your thyroid testing get a fasting glucose, fasting insulin, and an A1C.

If you are hypothyroid, research the condition and medication choices. I did not feel well until I got on Armour (t4/t3) with it being adjusted by free t4 and free t3 and I got on Meformin ER for the insulin resistance.

As an obese person, I can tell you it's not all from 'lack of exercise". I was told I was lazy and needed to work out more too, but in reality no matter how hard I worked out I didn't lose anything. My Ob/Gyn sent me for some blood tests and found I have Insulin Resistance, which causes weight gain as well as making it very hard to lose once gained. I also have exertional high blood pressure, which means my pressure goes through the roof when I try to work out and hypoglycemia which makes my blood sugar level drop even lower then normal when I attempt any vigorious cardo workout. So, yes there are a lot of medical reasons for being overweight, only your doctor can help you find out which is causing yours.

It is small minded to think that a person is fat by choose these days. I fought people like that my whole life and even now, they don't ask if there is something wrong, just assume that I am lazy. Like those who were quick to answer your question.

Please go see your doctor, or if it's not you, get them to a trained professional.

Yes, it's possible, but probably unlikely. The probable cause is that you are consuming more calories than you are expending.

Two ways to change that is by consuming less calories through a proper diet where you weigh and measure all of your portions and calculate your caloric intake on a daily basis. Your daily caloric intake should not exceed 1700 to 1800 calories a day.

The second way is by becoming more active. Exercising for a predetermined length of time, with a well-rounded and balanced exercise routine that includes weight training and cardiovascular training, on a regular basis, will do the trick.

The best way of all is with a balanced combination of diet coupled with exercise.

Yes. But more often the problem is that the person with the weight problem is overeating and not exercising.

You may be the ONE PERCENT of glandular imbalance. When I trained in health, registered nurse, in 1957 I was told that less than 1% of obesity was due to glandular imbalance.
In l978 I was in China, all over China, only once did I see a 'fat' person. All others were slim, muscular and you could put 20 in a modern elevator, installed for the oncoming 'tourists' capacity for 10.
At that time there were few visas into China and I was contracted as guide assistant for Pan American Airlines who got the visas first.
Half our tourists were fat, some were obese, ...maybe on one occasion there were a few slim people who were themselves medical people. The local Chinese were amazed at the hugeness of the TOURISTS in the groups we brought in. I was asked, by the local and national guides if the obese and fat ones were very rich? Then why were they so huge? this was l978!!!! What I am trying to tell you is that the downfall of the US ocurred several years ago, diabetese, ready made food, no mother in the home to cook or regulate the families' food intake, lack of after school supervision only TV or computers, no exercise for the child, lack of families as we once knew them, poor education in school due to no discipline at home/school, so you think obesity is the problem? It is one of the results of the downfall of civilization. Everyone is in such a hurry to make that almighty dollar that no can or even bother to do the normal household care, childcare, knitting, sewing, making things from scratch, and gardening anymore. When you are working and miss lunch you open a purchased bag of something that has high salt, fat, cheese processed with crackers made of processed flour, or eat a sandwhich ready-made, full of deli unhealthy but tasty stuff! It is too much to make a healthy-take -to-work lunch isn't it? only the newest arrivals to US do that, you think it is cos they are being economical, yes they are, but they respect their "intake". The Chinese and Indian engineers at my friends laboratory take their food from home and heat it in the provided microwave. Yet there is a cafeteria on site, and automats for junk food. You think these engineers are poor, or 'picky'? No, they know what is in that food they bring with them, they respect their bodies.

The MOUTH in USA is the problem for obesity and the downward respect of what comes out of the general public's mouth. The English is disgusting, poor grammar, poorly pronouned and then the spelling.....without spellcheck most cannot spell their own language. But they are in a rush and they think no one cares. But Europeans speak English better than born Americans, or should I say "bedder"? So the mouth needs to be contained, controlled and re-taught/trained. The letter "T" is not heard unless there are two Ts then it become a "D" like the word notice, and where there are two T's as in 'utter', it is mispronounced as in cow's "UDDER", it is udderly incredible, or should I not 'utter' such a word? In the States there is no difference between utter and udder, unless you are a 'foreigner', or a 'cow'. I cannot hear if a person speaking to me "can or cannot" because it sounds like " can" there is no T and so if you cannot spell and cannot pronounce, due to laziness, then how the heck can you communicate? Imagine being 300 lbs and not being able to pronounce your own language, but just enough to ask someone to fetch you another chocolate candy bar. So now you can see that obesity and speech go hand in hand, or mouth to mouth, both need ressusitating. Pun intended.
I came in 1961 to NY, and on Jones beach I saw people looking like Western Budahs, sitting there, and guess what?
eating, and coolers at their huge thighs, with guess what?
soft drinks, water was only for the poor like me!!! I was so shocked with what I saw on the beach that I wanted to shout it from the rooftops, that this was a "pandemic".
Then when driving on the interstates I saw huge graveyards of piled discarded automobiles, it seemed like miles of them. I discussed it with so called educated professors, the food intake, types of food, the discarded appliances and cars, they were annoyed and considered me to be "Anti-American". I am sorry for your ignorance, and stubborn ways. Thank g-d there is still a 'brain drain' or are we just going to admit via immigration the "sick and poor, illiterate" to lower our US standards further? Keep out the educated immigrant??? or make it hard for him to stay or even enter the USA?
Eating a healthy low fat/carb diet means YOU learn about food, YOU prepare it and take it to work. You plan for your next day's food. Too much work? Sure does not give you the extra dollars you need, so why bother? Only money matters to the educated and the uneducated in the US....so eat on, it is a form of suicide, just takes much longer, with us all as witnesses, but EVEN the witnesses are doing what you are doing. No wonder no one knows how to "nurse patients" in the hospitals, you would break your own back trying to turn one of those diabetic, or self induced huge obese bodies.....so why should they, there is very little nursing care in the States, and you are lucky if whoever enters your sick room speaks English. The insurance companies won't let hospitals have many nurses and they are usually doing the desk work anyway......Oh! well, who cares. But don't cry on someone else's shoulder you might break it, try taking responsibility for your own body.
Go to the doctor and see if you are the ONE PERCENT obese due to glandular imbalance, take a million other obese with you......USA is the land of the OBESE!
the land of "ONCE WAS". Parents who over-feed their young children should be prosecuted. It is a form of enforced abuse.
If you were given ONE automobile and told this is IT for your whole life, boy! would you take good care of it, changing the oil, checking the brakes, preventing rust to form, etc. well, you have been given ONE BODY for life, so start learning about it and taking good respectful care of it. Replacements are hard to come by. This should help you, if you let it. It took me quite a while to type this out, and I really want you to read it and try to make it work for you and others.
