They can do. There is something known as the "Epileptic Personality" which although not a mental illness can disguise itself with similar symptoms.
Undiagnosed epilepsy may also make a person act and behave "strangely".

The mental disorder and epilepsy might both be related to the same neurological cause.
I work in mental health; I recall once where a psychiatrist's report said the patient had "Intermittent Explosive Disorder due to Epilepsy."
Temporal Lobe Epilepsy can cause hallucinations.
Some anti-seizure medications are also used to treat psychiatric conditions; Depakote, Klonopin, Trileptal and Tegretol, for example.
I never heard of the "Epileptic Personality" before. I looked it up on the internet and apparently it's some term that was used in the 1950s--doctors don't use that term anymore as far as I know.

No, although the same person can have both epilepsy and a mental disorder.
Epilepsy is when the neurons in your brain start mis-firing, causing a seizure. The seizures can be controlled with medication, in most cases.
Mental disorders are more complex, and harder to deal with because they can have so many causes.

I would say they can be related because depression is comorbid with so many things. But this might be your epilepsy bringing you down. Are you on medication? Because this may be a side effect. Bipolar is characterised by periods of extreme highs and extreme lows. So do you experience periods where you are really productive? Lose the need to sleep etc? This may just be a phase but go see someone about it like a GP. Stop researching it because this will make you paranoid and scared, so don't jump to conclusions and seek help.

Mental illness has to do with the way your mind works not your brain. Epilepsy has to do with a blockage in a nerve of the brain. I am epileptic (complex partial seizures). I wanted to have a surgery done so that I would not have seizures any more. They was unable to do the surgery because of where the blockage was. If the would have done the surgery to remove the blockage it would risk me being paralized from my shoulders to my feet. Instead I had I VNS machine put in me to help control the seizures (with my med.) Mental illness can be cared for with psychiatric help. Epilepsy can only be taken care of with surgery or medication for the rest of your life.....

Generally speaking, no.
There has been an established correlation, however, between depression and seizure disorder (more persons with seizure disorders are depressed than one would expect to find in the non-seizure disordered population).
