Yeah, you're partly right. Iran has become a pawn in the "Great Game" between the Russo-Chinese alliance (officially called the Shanghai Cooperation Organization or SCO) on one hand and the US-Israel alliance on the other. Each of the two alliances also includes a number of smaller countries. Iran, like India and the EU is caught in the middle between the opposing forces although of course Iran is really up against it.....

It's important to remember as you look at all this, that if Iran is a pawn, it is a pawn with ambitions of becoming a queen. Many believe the Iranian elite has a dream to recreate the power of the ancient Persian Empire. Since Iran is the political capitol of world Shiism and much of the oil of Saudi Arabia & Iraq is in areas populated by Shiites, their dream may not be as fantastic as it sounds. There's a writer for the Asian Times known as Spengler who's analyzed this at great length. His essay, "Demographics and Iran's Imperial Design" is especially insightful (link below)....

The whole arms trade is a lucrative business, so it's obvious that those who sells them are in business competition with one another. The US and Britain sells weapons to Saudi Arabia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Qatar, etc.. Russia and China sells theirs to Iran, India, Pakistan, Africa, South America, etc.. Business always comes first, then politics comes second.

Both Russia and China also signed the UN resolution in support of imposing economic sanctions against Iran's nuclear ambitions. So in this respect, Russia and China cannot be said to be favoring Iran.

But in trade and commercial aspects, both Russia and China continue to be Iran's trade partners (on the stuff not covered by the UN's economic sanctions).

So, is Iran a pawn between the US and Russia?. Honestly, it's hard to say. But as I said, business interests comes first. And with Iran's possesion of vast oil reserves, it is surely a sweet apple in the West's eyes.

IRAN just announced yesterday that it will no longer trade in the U.S. Dollar, japan was asked directly to buy oil in their currency. Americas bullying has come back to haunt it. The U.S. lowering Russia's response time to 3 to 5 minuets for a missel attack with the new missle defence of placeing missles on eastern Europe is another bad move. Russia will defend their interest.

The Neo-Cons have made some bad moves with their policy of world domination.

It is not that We hate america. We are americans that love our country.

But the U.S is currently under a coup by this communist Bush Admin.

We need to get these CRAZIES out of OFFICE and get real conservatives in office, Or at leat Dems.

Anything but these tyrannical officials in there now before they start WW3.

And yes, Iran is the pawn!

Iran is just a scapegoat for President Bush. Iran was part of his "Axis of Evil" so he has to perpetuate them as the enemy. The war in Iraq was about oil and Iran is about oil.

Because of Bush's invasion of Iraq we have created enough animosity so that the whole middle east may become a threat.

Russia also has a lot of oil.

Iran's people do not want war. Its just that the Iranian leaders are a bit immature.

if you dislike America so much why don't you just convert to islam and move to the middle east now? Western civilization pretty much handed you the comfortable free life you have now, allowing you to degrade it as much as you want through free speech. Don't you feel any guilt/shame? It's like biting the hand that feeds you
