It would depend on what you want to store

1) Floppy disc holds 1.44mb and most computers these days dont have them so it's only useful for small amounts of data like word files or spreadsheets

2) A CD hold 650/700mb which is about 10 albums in MP3 format or a few 1000 word docs/spreadsheets. Most computers have these so this is probably 1 of the best options.

3) A pen drive can hold 250mb to 4gb. This is good with it being portable and can hold 100's of mp3's and they are quite reliable.

4) Hard drive? I'm assuming you mean external? These are probably the most reliable storage units holding anything from 80gb to 4tb. This is the equivalent to 500,000mp3's and 1000's of dvd quality movies. You can pick up a 500gb unit for around £100. (this is what I'd go for)

5) There are tapes or zip discs but they arent very common, usually expensive and not too reliable. The only other thing you haven't mentioned are dvd-r discs usually 4.4gb and work exactly the same way as a cd but with a larger capacity and obviously you need a dvd writer.

Hope this helps

This depends on how long you want to keep the data, and whether it's a security back-up or a running version.
Floppy disks are a dying technology
Writable CD is a fair choice but the life is only a few years, or less if badly stored. CDR better than CDRW
Pen drives are good, but the long term data retention life is uncertain, also they are easily pocketable and loseable.
Hard disks probably best for long tern, but again technology is changing, and in a few years IDE disks may not be easy to connect, having been replaced by SATA or even Solid State.
Whatever you use may well be the dogs b******s today, but in a few years?? - anybody remember Betamax, or 8-track?
The longest certain system is probably a printed copy, on quality paper with archival inks. At least that only needs the mark one eyeball to read it.
Whatever you use you need to ask the question again from time to time and transfer to new media if appropriate.

Usually those are used for traveling purposes. (up above)

You can always invest in a EBOOK which is an external hard drive used to store serious data! Good size one, you can use it to travel with, and plug it into a computer, imac, or labtop and play all of your stored games and music. (Variety)

Nobody can look into your EBOOK~
If you have your allow remote assistance box checked, that can be dangerous, which could lead people to looking at your stuff. No matter how much security you got into your computer, information can still leak into the usb, pen, ect drives!

All of those and more are widely in use world wide.

What type of data are you trying to keep? How much data do you have to keep? Etc.

I would suggest avoiding floppy disk as it's old and outdated, and in some cases completely retired. Unless you need to copy a file to a system without anything but a floppy, in a hurry.

No, I remember the 3.5 inch floppies. All my favourite games are on them from my childhood, but my current computer doesn't have a floppy disc drive LOL

As long as you don't lose it, then a pen drive is the best. Its cheap when you look at the amount of storage you can put on it. You can take it anywhere. I wouldn't be without mine now. All my data is backed up on one. Plus I have another one for storing pictures.

if u are storing data like packages(i.e a specific software, collections of photos, etc.) u can go for a cd/dvd.

for backup external hard drives are the best

for any other transfers pen drive is the best

but if u r going to transfer files far from ur computer, better upload it to some server like rapidshare,etc......

I'm not sure which one is the best but personally I liked using floppy disc. ^_^

Good question! Never thought of it... Sorry that my answer is quite lame... I'm not an expert at these things, you see.
