When I boot my computer the mouse and keyboard freeze. I have reloaded windows as another file and they work ok but I need to get back to my original settings as all my work is on there!

First 5 replies thanks but already have tried these suggestions none work. If my mouse is not working I cannot click on to restore to an earlier date!

Hmmm - seems like there are some REAL experts on here.

You say you have reloaded windows and that works fine.

Do you mean you have setup another profile or have you actually installed another version of windows?

If you have setup another profile - all you need to do is:

Log onto your system as administrator
Open to windows explorer
Click on your C:\ drive
Double click Documents and Settings
Go to the profile with all your documents in and copy the files to your new profile. All the shortcuts should work (unless you installed them only to work with the logged on user) but if not most of them should re-install automatically

If you have installed a new version of windows it is pretty much the same thing just copy the files to your new profile

You need a miracle kid!

Rule #1 always keep an old *** keyboard that uses the old school plug in port into your motherboard. and unplug your wireless mouse usb drive, if used! or disconnect your mouse! restart your computer and go from there...

Becareful when you load windows as another file, results in open ports and both os's installed are reading two different plugNplay usb ports that get confused, so it frezzes! Typical Microsoft glitch... Lazy bastards....

Are you using a desktop with a cordless mouse and keyboard?? If so, possibly the batteries need changing in one or the other, and they need setting back to the same channel as each other.

Restart your computer, hit F8 after the first screen.

A boot menu should appear.

Select Last Known Good Configuration

Let it boot and see if that doesn't fix it.

when you boot the computer, quickly press f8 repeatedly pressed and unpressed.

highlight safe mode and press enter.

when you log into safe mode, you at least can copy the documents from the private folder to a public folder.

also, you can create another user account.

I think that windoze is the weakest link here. Why not go for a more reliable sturdy OS and best of all it's free! Try linux, if you are on broadband you download it for free from many mirror sites. Also ubuntu distro can be shipped on disc for free too.

Couldn’t you load in safe mode and the restore from a previous date sounds like a software, virus, spy ware bug so that should sought it out.

sounds to me like your motherboard has went belly up. just go buy a new computer and put your h/d from this one in it as a slave and copy your important stuff onto the new drive.
