Two thoughts.
First - do you honestly believe "mean people" are cruising yahoo answers for the purpose of enlightening you? That would be a charitable act, which eliminates "mean people."
Second - most "mean people" do not see themselve as either mean or evil. They rationalize the evil they do as either recompense owed them by the system, or "the man." They see themselves as victims of a cruel and unjust world and therefore say they are just doing what they need to do to survive.
To this point we all are flawed to some degree or another. We all have the capacity and perform evil in various ways. (that is why the scriptures say that "all have sinned."). You may believe - "heck, I'm a pretty good guy (or girl), I haven't murdered anyone..." But we're really talking a matter of degrees of evil. Jesus said that anyone guilty of having hated someone is just as morally guilty as someone who murdered.
That's not an argument in defense of evil - just a statement that we all need retain a repentant heart toward God for the wrongs that we have done (if we are honest with ourselves).
I have done many things I am ashamed of in my life. Confessing those to God and others and repenting of them has freed me from them. The first step in repenting is to own up the fact that you too have done evil in the sight of God. Jesus said the "truth will set you free."

Nope, crime and doing evil doesNOT pay. Pay in the sense that does it gives a person benefit in doing crime or evil? Benefit maybe temporarily in that quick sense, that when an individual rob a bank he spend the quick cash he got and loose it in just one day. The same goes to doing evil, the enjoyment of accomplishing the task that a person wish like killing the friend who betray him or didnot give him the things he wanted. Then realize he done a terrible thing only when the thing is already through or finish, remorse usually comes too late. No person is born a criminal or evil in that sense. Goodness is embroidered in us by the time we are all born, only through environment or perhaps hereditary, still under research that a person evolved into another person in the long run.
Nobody gets away with crime or doing evil, maybe in this world a person can get away with the evil he has done but where we are all going there is definitely no escape with God.

I am not a mean person but I'll offer an answer...
Petty crime does not pay much and usually results in jail time.
Other high crimes are obviously very profitable. Enron, Haliburton, Tom Delay, and just about everybody in the current administration proves that.
Ultimately, all crime has a negative effect on the criminal's psyche. That's a form of "pay" no sane person wants.

If the evil goes un repentant long enough and the person dies in their sins, it will only send them to the lake of fire, so no, it never will pay off to be mean and evil and not turn to the Lord for forgiveness.

I'm not mean, nor do I do it, but it does seem like dealing drugs pays a heckuva lot better than any college degree.

Why don't you address your question to the Office of the Vice President? He has the experience to know.
