Svchost.exe is not a virus it is a vital part of your computer configuration. svchost.exe stands for services host. This is Windows attempt to make your computer more efficient. In software Svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that run from dynamic-link libraries (DLLs) within modern versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Due to being widespread among running processes, svchost.exe has long been a common disguise used by malware to hide its presence from the user. (One of the common trojan horses deceptively uses scvhost.exe). Users may then run tasklist with no arguments and match the reported PIDs with the previously shown Svchost instances. If memory usage appears abnormal, the user can look up the service names shown by their command on the internet to see if it is a known service or malware.

This is essential system process and can not be terminated. Its important for the safe and stable run of the computer system.

However: various parasites tries to exploit this name and similar names.
there is W32.Welchia.Worm which takes advantage of the Windows LSASS vulnerability, creates a buffer overflow and instigates your computer to shut down.

Not necessarily true.

svchost.exe is a system process in Windows that handles DLL processes. It is necessary to stablize your computer process and to make them run properly. You should not disable that service.

However, it is also known as trojan or has a known backdoor vulnerability. So, use a proper virus and backdoor program scanning software to see if that file is infected. If you don't have any result from the scanner, then your svchost.exe is fine.
