good question

Because the fans of movies like Scary Movie don't mind if the purity of the trilogy form is marred by a pesky number 4.

Plus, a lot of money comes in from an extra movie. The industry gets that much more cash from an investment that has already proven its money-making abilities.

Because the 'Scary Movie' series has made MORE money for the studio than the still-successful 'Xmen' series. Sure, Xmen pulled in way more at the box office, but an Xmen movie cost close to 200 million to produce, while a 'Scary Movie' only cost about 30. So the profit margin is bigger for SM. See? Money is King in Hollywood (and everywhere else).... :-)

Because that's HOLLYWOOD, If you knew that 50 million people would come to see your movie at $10 a piece, then there's really no reason to question why that's just the way it is. Remember it's not about who's movie is written and directed by what person, popularity is part of what moves the industry. Evidently you liked the movie, because I know you had to watch at least one of them. Hell they put tv shows on the air that aren't even that funny and have the nerve to get good reviews for being a comedic sitcom. Understand this, that's the game and the name of the game is money.

Because Scary movies is NOT about following a storyline or same characters or are made as "sequels". They are jsut movies with same (stupid) ideas and they just put a number behind them.

Not that I care about Scary Movies series. After I saw S/M 2 and 3 I decided I was just wasting money.
