Follow your dream....good for you. But education is the first place to start. Find a good acting school, perhaps upgrade your education in literacy.

Hi,
I don't think I would stop my studies just yet until I really understand what I'm getting myself into.
This question comes up so much that I created a 28-page ebooklet, that you can download for free at my website: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com . Just go there, sign in and you can download it. It's called: What It Takes To Become An Actor. It will give you a lot of good information as to what to do first.
How long will it take? Depends on how much you dedicate yourself to it. It really depends on you.
Once you get through some of the things in the ebooklet, you might want to check out this page with regard to how to get an agent: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/how_to_get_an_agent.html
Something else you will want to check out is about how to fund your career. Many actors overlook this crucial step and end up not really being able to concentrate fully on their career, because of work. Don't let that happen to you.
Whether you do the exact things you see on this page or not, it should give you some ideas as to what is possible and more! http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/money_making_opportunities.html
Hope that helps!

1. pack up to bombay , since being at the right place matters first .
2.join a acting school , that is if u want to , but the best thing is to join a theatre group and the experience in here itself be 100 times more than what u would learn in acting school, go to" prithvi theatre" at juhu and get details .
3. but since u r a new comer first set a base for yur self in madras ..itself , get hold of the creme of coordinators in madras,. meet them and discuss with them , never let them know that u r totally a novice ...u might be taken advantage of.
4. try to find out the good photographers in chennai , see their work , and as per yur budget choose one of them to get yur portfolio done , this is a must , yur photos will represent you always .
5.then distribute the photos to coordinator , just the good ones , find out tara umesh's no in chennai, she is one of the best coordinators there.find out for the rest of them too.
6.gather as much as u can , try attending " auditions" in chennai , then u will have atleast a knack of what this industry is , only then march to mumbai .
7. REMEMBER,this industry is the most competetive industry , there are lacs ofpeople who decide to join it everyday, but very few succeed , its the complete sincerety, hardwork and tactfullness that is required by the aspirant to reach , and all this comes along to a person who has first finished up his education , its not a life term job for men , at one point of time u will have to fall on your resources, and then u will realise atleast i should have had a professional degree.
8. the struggle period is long , and to sustain in this struggle period u will need a good income , ex. one portfolio shot by a good photographer in mumbai itself starts fm 25oook
9. hence , my advice , continue yur studies, along with the struggle of making it in chennai first , this will be yur preparation to head towards mumbai.
bcos nowadays its an educated actor who will be able to sustain in the industry and no body else.
all the best

Dear Friend,
Hey! You need not have to stop your studies to become an actor. There were/are many filmstars & sportstars who have achieved highest levels in academics along with their careers in films/sports - like IAS, IPS and even MBBS. Many have been employed in Govt. as well as Pvt. firms/companies and many have even become entrepreneurs/politicians, but still are continuing their career in films/sports.
e.g., Ramesh, BE, Bank Janardhan, Avinash(employees/actors); Javagal Srinath, BE, Anil Kumble(employees/cricketers); N T Ramarao, Jayaprada, Anantnag, Mukhyamantri Chandru(politicians/actors).
There are many Premium Institutes which impart training in film acting. But, you need not have to worry that much. If you have basic skills in acting and communications, you can get into T.V serials very easily and if you show very good performances there, you will be automatically absorbed into the films.
However, to become a 'Hero', you'll need to have some basic characters like smart look, good physique etc.
Wish u good luck and grand success both in your academics & your career(acting as well as employment).

Take acting classes, find a good acting school. Actors do NOT have portfolios.
Actors have a resume and a headshot! NOTHING ELSE!

sign up with a skills company. attempt to attend as many auditions as a risk. while you're any stable, you're able to be chosen for a place in a commercial or something small. while you're searching for larger jobs then you certainly will could take some appearing training & seek for out greater suited agencies.
