Not health care. We're #37 on that.
BUT....
We are "world's largest consumer of cocaine, shipped from Colombia through Mexico and the Caribbean."

Damn right. We're the highest nation in the world.

No. We are the shortest people in the industrial world (points to poor diet). We are the only industrialized nation in the world without universal health care. We have the highest infant mortality rate of any industrialized nation and the highest rate of death of mothers in labor. We have the lowest voter turn out. We have less than 1/3 of the world's population but use of 2/3 of the world's resources. We use our economic and military might to impose our will on other countries. We act like it is a crime to be poor. We're consumer whores. And we've allowed a retarded chimp to use the fear of terrorism to take our rights away.

it depends on what you will use to qualify "greatest nation" status. i dont think anyone can really claim that across the board.
we have great health care and great schools. but our health care system is a joke and our schools are a little messed up at the moment as they cannot decide what science to teach and how they are going to approach this whole war on terror business.
we are by no means perfect, but a lot of people want to come here. if you remove the xenophobic right-wing element, we are quite nice people.

freedom, rights, an attempt to take care of all people, a government that has restrictions, best health care system in the world, attempting to help other countries in need
I find it odd that so many people have trouble understanding what makes the US great
If you want to see how great others think we are look at immigration they wouldn't be trying to come here unless it was better then where they were
Are we perfect NO are we the best choice YES
You don't see 12 mill americans flooding south for a better life
you don't see millions running to India for better education

Didn't Tony Blair say something about being able to tell about how great a country is by how many people want in and how many want out?
I think that the US is a very desirable place to live and not too many people want out once they are here.

It really depends on where you're born.
What's the best high school?
Best race?
The best brand of car?
Best religion?
Best style of dress/fashion?
Everyone sees what they do, have, or are, as the best.
(Obviously, this requires TONS of self-deception.)
That's why the vulgarity of Nationalism is the mark of a moron.
