You didn't say what type of birth control.

No birth control is 100% effective except for abstinence.

Most birth controls out today are 99% effective.

If you take a high-dose pill & take it daily, the chances are only like 1%. If you use other things, the chances go up to 15%. Withdrawal is about 50%. Rhythm method can be good, but only if you're really careful, otherwise can be 50%, too.

I think the pill is one thing that can have side effects to the baby, if you continue them. The IUD and Norplant can have side effects, too.

the bcp is only 98% effective if take correctly, thats without missing pills. if you do fall pregnant on the pill and did not know for a while there is no effect of the pill on the baby, orthough you will have to stop taking the pill when you find out.
