I've seen it in ultrasound pics.

I am sure that they can. When I was pregnant this last time I got an ultrasound and they got pictures of my baby sucking his thumb. If they can suck their thumb before they are born I don't see why the couldn't smile.

I do not think so. Babies' muscles aren't adapted enough to smile before birth or very soon after birth. Babies start smiling after 3 or 4 months of age, I think. I am not completely sure, however.

we could test this out:
let the smile be positive x, frown be negative x thefore

x^2 + 9x + 18 =0
(x+6)(x+3)=0
therefore x = -3,-6
a smile=positive therefore this theory is wrong and since its negative it means that this theory shows that babies are able to frown before they are born, since a frown is negative

haven't you ever heard of smiling on the inside...but crying on the outside...oops got that backwards.

But I have seen sonograms of babies in the womb smiling.

Yes babies smile, and respond to other stimuli as well. Amazing isn't it?

Yes, they can. I have an ultrasound picture of my sucking his thumb as well.
