I think it is because we generally have more empathy than men and can feel what the character is going through. I admit it, I am a total blubberer. When Kristen Scott Thomas is left to die all alone in the cave of swimmers you must have shed a tear. Surely? And didn't everybody cry when E.T. 'died' there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Women are just programmed that way. We can allow ourselves more easily than men to connect with characters. I personally can't stand "chick flicks", but I've still gotten choked up watching a sad movie, or Oprah.

why do men (not all, but a lot) fail to get in touch with their feelings? hmmmmmm?
actually, I personally know several men that also shed a tear or two at the movies when there is a touching scene, it takes a courageous and true man to be able to admit his feelings and share them. Those of you who have no clue why a woman cries in a movie.......you are a sad lot.

I've never busted up bawling during a movie, but I've certainly felt a tear or two.
