I'm gay, and I only have my left ear pierced.
I've heard about this though. When I got my ear pierced, I already decided I wanted the left ear done, but thought I'd ask the dude about which ear was which. He told me that back in the day of pirates, they would pierce their ears because of chinese accupunture they learned about. Crossing the seas, they learned different cultures, you see, and there allegedly is a pressure point in your ear that allows you to see better.
(I don't know if that's true or not, this is just the story he gave me)
Pirates, being the vagabonds that they were, wore earrings and jewelry that would pay for their funerals, should they know anyone alive who cared to have them buried.
Now comes the interesting part! The guns they used to use back then had enough of a kick that when rested on their right shoulder to aim, the gun's backfire (or whatever it's called) would thrust back on the pierced ear, ripping the earring out. Hence, only the left ear was pierced. Allegedly, if your right ear was pierced, you didn't shoot guns enough or at all to worry about it, and I suppose this made you a sissy (no gun fights? no brawls? etc.)
Epic story, I know, but thought I'd pass it along

No. Actually many men have earrings in both ears. During the days of the pirates, it was not uncommon for them to have multiple earrings in both ears. I am a gay man, but I only have my left ear pierced. I was also told once in my area that if you wore a stud and a hoop in the same hole that was a sign to others that you were gay.

Who knows where that damned story started. It's ridiculous. My ex was a sailor and pierced ears were a long tradition in the Navy for crossing the Equator. It just happened to be the left ear. There were lots of reasons why sailors wore earrings.

If my gaydar is right....

The pierced right earlobe was a way for gays to identify one another... back in the 80's.

Nowadays they just ask.

Don't be afraid to pierce the wrong ear. There is no wrong ear anymore. Besides, it's not like they bite if you don't request it.

It is always presumed that a man who wears earring either on the right or on the left ear is gay. He is more than a lady. Earrings are for women who want to be attracted by men.
