public works is the correct answer. Cops only pick up dead people off the streets. Hazard crews are called out when there are dead aliens in the street!

I'm not positive who picks them up, but after they are picked up they go to rendering plants. Yup. That's where they put all the roadkill, dead livestock and even companion animals together, grind it up into "animal meat" and "animal meat by-products" You'll see it on a lot of low quality pet foods. They call it "animal" because you can never be clear as to which animal it really is.

where i live (st. louis missouri) it's the street department, either city or county depending on where it is of course....i never knew that until i started working at the humane society last year and we get lots of calls about dead animals on the streets

either the street sweepers, the police if it's believed to be some sort of epidemic, or quarantine issue, the animal control department, or sometimes a hazmat crew.
