Different levels, some can sound like they are in your head and some can sound like a person in the room, or behind you. More commonly people think they hear their name being said out of nowhere.

Schizophrenia is characterized by impairments in the perception or expression of reality. Sometimes in the form of auditory hallucinations.
Most Psychiatrists would frown on the answer I'm about to give because it's too specific. But I really think it's the answer you're looking for.
Everyone sometimes hears thoughts as voices inside thier head. Schizophrenics hear voices of others "outside" themselves, who are talking to them.
Hope that helps.

There are different levels of schitzophrenia. For some the voice that they hear inside of their heads is only a voice that they can hear but no one else but they can hear it. To others there is an actual person visible to them which is not visible to us. For them the person is real.

Everybody has voices that talk to them most people talk back schizophrenia is when those voices become real individuals.

For me, I believe a bit of little bit of each. I have a tendency to believe i am listening to matters throughout me like voices and whatnot, however part the time i am satisfied it is my creativeness. Now the opposite part of the time, it's definately listening to whispers and on occasion random yells. I were in a position to listen to the mystical for approximately ten years now and it by no means turns out to fail after they desire to be heard. People more commonly believe its ludicrous that anybody can pay attention such matters, however i could deliver my existence to permit anybody pay attention what I do on a every day foundation.

I used to be schitzophrenic
We're okay now.
It depends on how serious it is, and the person.
And it's not just necessarily hearing voices, it can be like "being" another person. Sort of like an alternate identity.

It's like a whisper, or a sudden shout, a single word, like their name, or a command,'stop'. they can hear the roaches talking in the walls. Turn on a light, put on some music, write on yahoo. I'll be hear to write back to you.

its more like a thought, you don't actually hear a voice but you know when you think of a word when your reading a list of coffee flavors at a espresso stand, its like the word your reading, but when you think of the word, its like it came from somewhere else like you weren't thinking of that word but all of the sudden it comes and you dunno how.....
