I don't think it's written in stone or anything, but growing up, yes I got new clothes before the 1st day. Kinda makes you feel confident while going through a grade change.

Supposed to? No, but it is indeed common, well for some families. Obviously money is a key factor, but if money is not the issue, then hype is. Schools and high schools in particular are a haven for uncessary fashion issues, which ultimatley is a terrible distraction from the point of education in the first place.
Besides, if it still fits, and it looks good, why change it?
I have the same style as I did fifteen years ago, and the only time I bought new was if I out grew something physically, something got damaged in some way and/or I found a new item/article of clothing to accentuate or add to my look.
Trends come and go, but fads are the thing to avoid. Some fads last a week :)

Hm. Well I guess nobody HAS to or anything, but like for me by the end of the school year I only has one or two things that fit me/that i like so i get just a few summer clothes to tide me over and then I buy a bunch more clothes for back to school. So for me yes.

no, i used to think that and it was usually what happened and what still does. but then i think about it and i end up wearing something i bought the year before to school at least once or twice during the school year. especially if you wear uniforms, usually the only reason i buy new clothes is to stand out and keep up with my trendy-ness, otherwise then no need to! just update certain parts of your look, wear new clothes with a vintage book bag or back pack and shoes or vice versa!

Yes you should, but you can still wear the clothes you had from the previous school year. Though I never bought anymore than four new outfits at the begining of the year, the bought what I needed though out. I'm still wearing the same jeans I bought in the 11thgrade and I'm in college now.

You don't need an entirely new wardrobe but sometimes one or two nice set of clothes to wear on the first days. If your clothes still fit and they look nice then you don't need to buy new clothes.

no longer all and sundry has the money to bypass out and purchase new clothing in line with annum. I positioned on rather some the comparable clothing for years. in case you incredibly do unlike your clothing that plenty, sell your previous clothing at plato's closet after which you will desire to purchase new clothing with the money you get from those you in basic terms offered.

You don't HAVE to. But it is cool to go back to school with some new items in your wardrobe. And they don't even have to be "new" I like to go to high-end consignment shops. I always find stuff cheap and a lot of it still has the tags.

Not if you don't need new clothes. It's nice to buy one or two new things to spruce up your wardrobe, but I don't know anyone who bought a new wardrobe each year.
