I just think I might have been responsible for the death of an insect and wanted to know if I could go to jail for it

Federal laws are available on a variety of sites. I use FindLaw.com

State laws are found on the separate websites of each state -- not all states have their laws online, but most do.

Legal advice can only be given by a licensed attorney. So, while you might find some websites with general legal information or how-to manuals for do-it-yourself, you're not going to find any (lawful) legal advice websites.

Go to your states General Assembly website for specific laws for your state. Be prepared for tons of info and a little searching for what you want to find.

I looked it up. You can be jailed and sentenced to death for the type of killing this was.
