There are TONS of reasons to get induced. There's logical ones and then lazy ones. A few logical ones are preclampsia, diabetes, placenta previa, going overdue to a certain period, high blood pressure, low or fast heart rate. Now some lazy ones.. Reduce of stretch marks, lower chances of high birth weight, and a few others. I got induced with two of mine and I regret it. You don't get to feel like you get to enjoy it cause you wait for it to happen. Try to let it come natural and you'll be glad later. Good luck!

I'm starting to think there aren't any good reasons to get induced. If your baby is in trouble, forcing labor is only going ot make baby in more trouble because induction contractions are stronger and longer. This can be a problem for a baby already in distress.

I've been reading a lot of accounts on the ICAN-Online Yahoo group (a group for caesarean moms and related persons), and a lot of them have said that they would rather have a repeat caesarean than induce, and they are adamently aganist unnecessary caesareans. Granted, previous caesarean makes induction a big no-no, but it makes sense to not induce unless something is actually wrong.

Suspected large baby is not a good reason to induce at all. It is so rare for a mom to grow a baby to big to birth that it really only happens when she had a nutritional deficiency that warped her bones in childhood or she had a previous pelvic break that didn't heal properly. That's usually the only case for actual CPD.

Old placenta? If there were really a problem, wouldn't they go to surgery instead of putting baby under more stress by inducing?

GD? I actually don't know the reasoning behind inducing women with gestational diabetes, but it seems like some doctors induce earlier than others, which makes me think they're jumping the gun.

I don't think I'd let myself be induced prior to 43 weeks. I would probably still have issues with it at 43 weeks though. I would never trust an ultrasound after the first trimester because they can be radically incorrect in estimating weight. Why put your baby at risk like that?

most popular one? baby been way past due, most doctors only let baby be 2 weeks late. Another might be you get contractions(very painful ones) 5 min. apart and no sing of dilating. I got induced with my first one, I had strong contractions for 3 days and was only 1 cm dilated, it took me 17 hours to dilate and my baby girl finally decided to come to the world.

Labor for childbirth? Only AFTER your due date and only then after two weeks overdue. When the apple is ripe it will fall from the tree. A ripe "apple" and a ripe mother make for a natural, successful delivery. If your doctor is pushing you for an early induction it may be for THEIR convenience - they want to deliver babies at convenient hours or their tee time may be late afternoon, or they may be going to Switzerland to ski on Monday and they want all of thier baby deliveries "off the charts" by Friday.

I think the only way is if your baby is having problems, your past due, or its around a holiday or some time you really need to have your baby by & thats only if your extremley close to your due date & they baby is fine. I did go walking alot & ate spicy food, drank casterol, had sex w/ my husband, & went on a bumpy ride the day I went into labor though.

If you are in serious pain.

If you live in a rural area, particularly if home alone. Lots of folks won't agree with me on that, but they are perhaps unaware of the shortage of hospitals/medical personnel in rural America.

If you are within a week of due date and Dad is about to be shipped off to Iraq.

Non productive labor that goes on and on preventing rest. (also known as Braxton Hicks contractions).
