Not in the specific definition of split, but you could use a cable modem router which will allouw you to NAT multiple computers behind a single IP address supplied by your cable modem. Such a router can be had for about 30 dollars.

We've done this by plugging the ethernet line into an airport or linksys hub and using that to have wireless internet access for multiple laptops.

Sure, just hook up a router and you are good for dozens of computers if you want. the other option is to set one computer as the proxy and then set the other computer to work through it as an add hoc network.
