Yes. I also remember when gas was 35 cents a gallon and we had 500,000 troops in Viet Nam, and it took a Republican (Nixon, no less) to get us out.

So what was your point?

I remember when it was thirty cents a gallon before the oil companies got together with OPEC and put their foot up our a$$. Now they have it so far implanted I'm brushing their boots when I brush my teeth. That wasn't enough, now the mere whisper of a grain of sand blowing around in the middle-east causes the price of crude to rise. We are being held captive by foreign oil and all we have gotten in thirty five years is talk, blah, blah, blah and next to no action to actually do something about alternative sources of energy. Why? Because too much money is being made by a select few. The policy remains the same, screw us for all we have and tell us anything but whatever we do we absolutely won't do a damn thing to change it. Our government at its finest.

I, like some others on here remember 29 cents a gallon, and we were at war in Viet Nam. But they didn't have any oil so it didn't affect the price.

Aside to Chredon above: Nixon didn't get us out of Viet Nam, Congress did by defunding the war, just as they should do now.

Yes it wasn't that long ago at all. 7 or 8 yrs ago.

To the person that says pay was lower and so was minimum wage (it's all relative???) - are you kidding me-nonsense!!?? Your wages have increased 300% in the last 8 years? Because mine sure haven't and I even went to back to get a college a degree. Overall 300% inc. in wages since '99?? Laughable. You can just consider this inc. in gas as a tax because no, wages haven't by any means kept pace.

We're also paying more for milk, meat, eggs, corn, etc. because of ethanol. Something noone even uses cause we still use gasoline overwhelmingly. Now we are getting it on both ends.

I remember when gasoline was less than 30 cents a gallon. We have never been a peaceful nation.

war may not be peaceful but neither are the xenophobic persecutions that have always existed in america. War is atleast an honest violence that people don't so easily delude themselves into thinking doesn't exist. and im not talking about immigration although that issue would apply aswel.

The two major parties both want to suck up every remaining right and freedom that exists, they have made arrangements for which freedoms each party will take so that they are sure to by working together, take them all away.

That all stopped in Spetmeber 1999 when OPEC started jacking the price of gas up, and we were NOT at peace back then.
