Guinea pigs are very fragile. There limbs and spine can easily be broken thus why you need to take very good care of them. As to whether or not they will die if you drop them the answer is depends. It depends on how high you drop them from, what you drop them onto (concrete or a beanbag) and what part they land on. If you drop them from hip level onto concrete head first, chances are it will not survive. You should always be wary of this, as a guinea pig owner, and should make sure that you are correctly and safely holding them to help prevent drops.

They'e so small, dropping them even a small distance is like dropping a human off a cliff.

Yes, like any small animals they can be injured, even fatally injured, by falling. It would be the equivalent of a human falling off a second or third story building.
