Because it's in our genetic make-up. It's evolution's way of forcing a man to admit something before he's really ready to. The man who gets around the question without pissing the woman off is more desirable as a mate lol...

It's called a loaded question. They are seemingly asked to get us men to screw up and play into their trap(s). It all stems from insecurity, in my humble opinion.
