just to make sure there are no scorpions hiding inside your sneaker before putting them on?

Yes, I used to. When I lived with my parents, we constantly had scorpions. My brother was stung by one in his bedroom and my dad was stung in our backyard and nearly died from it (luckily we got him to a hospital in time). It turns out he is severely allergic to them and now he carries an Epi-Pen with him. I would always shake out my shoes before putting them on.

I just moved out of my parents about 6 months ago into my own house and I never shake my shoes out. I've haven't (so far) seen a scorpion at my house.

No never have shaked my shoes for scorpions during the summer. Because I live in Phoenix central and when it's 115 outside, I wear sandals. Where can the hide? :-)

Yes, being an Arizona Resident I do shake out my sneakers before putting them on. Scorpians are common where I live and walking around with a stung foot really puts a damper on your day. Sometimes I even put my hand in my shoe before shaking it out, just to make sure.

If I am putting my shoes on in my house, no I do not shake them. If I am out camping or at the lake, then yes, it is a must (year round, not just in the summer).

Scorpions are typically only found out in the desert or in new housing developements (since new housing is cutting into their territory and they have not quite moved their nests yet).

I've lived in AZ over 24 years and I've never even seen a scorpion except at the zoo. Since all I wear are crocs or sandals, I don't think that would be a problem

i've lived in phoenix and has never shaken my shoes for scorpions but for hygienic reasons.. just to shake off some dust as a habit.. scorpions are more like probably in communities near wide open spaces, not much in the city...

I do but not as often as I should, I'm in a rural part of Tucson where everything is not built on and paved over, since i'm in their habitat they sometimes get in the house, anything on the floor is something they can hide in or under. Usually they don't get very far and die from the pesticide that's been applied at the door threshold.

Wow, I've lived in Arizona 20 years and I've never shaken my shoes out, whether in my house, out by the pool or when I've gone camping. No one ever told me I should and I've only ever seen one scorpion in all those years...and that was in someone's backyard, and they killed it FAST! This is honestly the first time I've ever head about doing this.

No, I don't. I've lived in Phoenix all my life (25 years) and I've only ever seen one scorpion in "the wild". Mostly they like to stay away from people. They're probably afraid of getting squished . . .
